    Cement Block and climbing

I had the same experience with one of mine (female). I discovered a sliver of light coming through in the corner she stood in. I added blocks to the outside to cover the crack and she stopped. Now larger at 7 yrs old, she has a full yard (with lots of hides) to graze in and only a wooden...

    Sick tortoise

That's great news! So glad she's feeling better. We had a breeze yesterday that cleared the air, and my torts were back on patrol and grazed all day.

    Sick tortoise

If you are getting smoke/ash from the fires, that might be the problem. My tortoises have stopped grazing and are staying close to their houses under large bushes. They even stopped going to their feed dishes so I moved them under the bush. I also moved the water there. I check their poop...

My tortoise tries to eat my toes!!

One of my tortoises was fond of my feet when she was a baby. I never wore polish. She just touched my toes with her tongue. Yes, they will nibble if your toes are the color of favorite flowers. Maybe your socks are bright? When I wore shoes she would crawl up on them and ride my foot...

    Food advice- opuntia

Miracle Grow has chemicals in it that are not healthy for your tortoise. You can make your own "cactus mix" with any organic top soil by adding sand to it. Soggy soil will rot your cactus. They like to be dry and get lots of sun. Also, I plant in heavy clay pots because they dry out...

Treating a scrape/cut on a super shy rescued sulcata?

I was told that alfalfa has too much protein. My 6-yr-olds won't eat Timothy hay (even cut and soaked) but like the orchard grass hay.

Does anyone else’s tortoise sleep like this?

My female Sulcata sleeps with her neck all the way out and to the side. She also covers her shell with substrate. It looks so weird, but she has always slept that way so must be comfy to her.

    Let's see your Sulcata

Wild garlic seems to be controversial as an edible: I followed threads about it here. I would feel more comfortable if a long-time member such as Tom answer your question. I have wild onion, also controversial, everywhere in my largest yard and don't let me torts in there because of it. It...

    Let's see your Sulcata

Wow, Rodney has a nice place to roam. It looks like a hydrangea in the left lower corner of picture #2: If so, does Rodney eat it? I understood them to be poisonous and took mine out. I sure loved it.

    Is This Diet Ok?

Maggie3fan, I may be making another mistake. My torts don't use the cuttlebone, so once a week or two I scrape a bit off the cuttlebone on the top of their food. They don't get it all, but some. Is that "sprinkling" too much?
