    When to upgrade redfoot enclosure??

I ended up discovering "cold frames" today and it will be perfect! The only problem is that they don't have a base so I'd have to make one myself. Any ideas?? Here are the two options I was thinking of

    When to upgrade redfoot enclosure??

Hi everyone! I have an approximately 9 month old redfoot and am wanting to upgrade his enclosure. He's growing like a champ and his current enclosure is getting on the small side. I am planning on going ahead and building a tortoise table but want to make sure that the climate is good for his...

    Taco got an enclosure reno

Thank you for your advice! What would you recommend in place of the bark? I've seen a lot of forum members recommend it, otherwise the top layer gets too moist and can cause shell rot.

New Tort Parent | Red foot hatchling

Here is the thermostat that I use. The CHE will plug directly into it and you can set the temperature to whatever you'd like his enclosure to be. Mine is at 86 degrees and he has a cooler side if he gets too hot.

    Taco got an enclosure reno

I have monitored him closely and he doesn't try to eat it and he is big enough that he doesn't get tangled up. I will take it out if it causes any issues!

New Tort Parent | Red foot hatchling

Hi there! I am also a fairly new redfoot tort parent, but I can let you know what has worked for me. As far as UVB exposure, you're going to hear different things from different members. From everything I've researched, redfoots don't need near as much UVB exposure as other torts. Mine only...

Red foot hatchling light + heat

I have been using the thermostat that Tom mentioned and I love it so far. Just make sure you don't get the probe too close to the lamp, otherwise it won't read correctly! Also, I wouldn't use a mesh top because the humidity levels will be too hard to maintain. I currently have a sheet of...

    Taco got an enclosure reno

I just finished renovating Taco's enclosure! I added a new hide (he outgrew his old one), new plants, and some more sphagnum moss. He seems to love it so far!

    Upgrading Redfoot Enclosure

This is extremely helpful, thank you so much!! I will see if i can get some starts/seeds and put some more coverage in his enclosure. Hopefully that will encourage him to do some more exploring!

    Upgrading Redfoot Enclosure

Hey everyone! I have a beautiful ~7 month old redfoot that I purchased from Southern Reptiles last year. He's already more than doubled in size and quadrupled in weight since October. He will occasionally explore his enclosure, but I think he needs more plants/coverage to feel fully comfortable...

    Shell rot?

My guess would be because of the closed chamber style enclosure? It doesn't allow for airflow, while in the wild there's constant airflow.

    Shell rot?

That's what I was thinking as well. I am planning to start treating him today and hopefully it will clear up quickly.

    Shell rot?

The bottom layer is coco coir, the top layer is cypress mulch. He loves to hide under one of his logs all day and the ground is pretty damp there. I was planning on picking up some athletes foot cream today to see if that will clear it up.

Looking to be a tortoise owner!

Hi Jamie! I am new to the forum as well and have had my tort for about a month so far. I ended up going for a Redfoot hatchling from a reputable breeder and he is doing great. Everyone on here is pretty good about answering any questions you have, so once you find a breed that you prefer then...
