    Anorexic Tortoise

Did your girl do better after the e-tube? We are placing one today. It's good to know there's hope for long term anorexia.

    Anorexic Tortoise

Just to clarify, my pic is a Galapagos that that I fell In love with. I do not own one (as much as I might like to). I own two female red foots and I also work in a specialty hospital. I thought I would tap into the brains of tortoise enthusiasts that have been caring for torts longer than I. My...

    Anorexic Tortoise

My avatar is definitely not a red foot. I have two myself but I'm hoping to give some additional advice to a client. You know how sensitive these creatures can be, so I'm not anticipating her to eat while she is with us in hospital. But even at home she is not herself. I thought I could see what...

What do people do to help encourage a tortoise to eat?

    Sick Redfoot

Your poor tort. Hopefully all is better now. I was fortunate enough that my tort didn't have any issues while on Fortaz. They can be such sensitive creatures sometimes.

    Protein options?

My torts are about 30 years old. I fed them a variety of protein listed above by other members. No one mentioned pinkies so i thought I'd suggest.

    Help (only eats bananas)

There is a product called Critical Care that's available through vet clinics that see reptiles. My torts love it and it comes in Apple banana flavour. It might be a nice and healthy compromise while transitioning to greens?

    Protein options?

I also wonder about cooked egg shell. When a dog is on a raw food diet, the shells are given in raw form. It's a big "no no" to give them cooked shell. Not quite sure why.

    Protein options?

I feed my girls pinkies on occasion. They love them and are pretty accessible.

    Cypress Mulch: Bake or Freeze?

I have baked my mulch before. I did it at 200•F for 20-30 minutes. I placed a thin layer on a baking sheet, baked them, and then transferred them to my kitchen sink full of water to let them cool and rehydrate. I had little mites (non parasitic grain mites of some type) previously and I...
