I am Kirsten.
I guess you could say I am a chemist....I create custom eco-beauty products (perfume, skincare, etc.). I am also a silversmith.
I want to be a nurse and thinking about going back to school.
What about you?
Thank you everyone! I love the idea of the 12v heating blanket or the hand warmers. I'll see what I can get my hands on.
Maggie and onarock, I'm going to follow your advice about the box, doing the warm and dark thing. She loves din-din, so I may have p.o.'d tort on my hands of we go a day...
So, my wonderful forum peeps....I need some input. I am moving from Wisconsin to South Carolina. We are driving cross country and I am nervous about my tort staying healthy during the trip during this chilly time of year. We have a very large suv, so I will have no issues putting her whole...
I, too, use cypress mulch now. If you purchase it, make sure it is untreated when purchasing from non-pet store sources.
If you look through the "Enclosure" forums on here, you can see all the neat set-ups people have created.
I provide a slate rock (for basking under the lamp in the...

BEAUTIFUL garden and setup. Your "kids" are spoiled!
I sympathize with the snow dilemma. I'm moving to the South in a month and will enjoy my first winter without a snow shovel! :D

Thank you Danny! I'll keep that in mind. I keep her habitat in the upstairs of our house (since heat rises). I've checked the temp a few nights in the cool end where she sleeps and it never goes below 70F.
Since Persi's identity crisis has been solved I will wait until next year to get her a...
This is what had me totally confused about keeping water in the habitat. This is what I read off of a care sheet about Golden Greeks:
"Water: In captivity, these species get the vast majority of their water needs met by feeding on the water-heavy greens commonly used for their diet. Thus we...
Thank you Danny! Hijacking is just fine by me. The more info...the better. The plastron pic was a bit dark...sorry.
Hilarious! My vet must not be a good tortoise gender id'er...and he's a reptile vet too! I checked an SFU paper on the biogeography of desert torts and I can definitely see...
