    Sudden Death

Thanks, Mark. 1. Overheating: no... the weather that day was actually a bit cool. Maybe 75. I put him in the sun with his food, but he also had shade and his house to go into (which is fitted with a heater/thermometer, sun lamp and day lamp). 2. Choking, yes... that is possible. 3. Not many...

    Sudden Death

Tammy, thank you. No further info. He lived in a large garden area with hides, shade, sun, and a easy-access home that was fitted with a heater/thermometer, sun lamp and day lamp. Food was greens/grasses and occasional fruit as a treat. Can't figure out what happened.

    Sudden Death

Our 12 year old African Desert Tortoise died suddenly. He was fine (we think) when we fed him this morning and put him in the sun. He was eating when we left him. Five hours later he was gone. Shocked. Anyone have a clue? I know we’re guessing, but any similar experiences out there? Thanks.

    Found tortoise with cracked shell

Yes, that's what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. We are helping this friend to get him back to where they found him (or as close as possible). Thanks again.

    Found tortoise with cracked shell

Maggie, thanks for your quick response. We have not seen this turtle/tortoise in person, so we couldn't tell from the photos. But there are a good number of turtles in and out of ponds and canals in this area. So maybe we should simply put him back into a pond with other turtles we've seen...

    Found tortoise with cracked shell

A friend found this tort today. Because we have a male Leopard Tortoise, he asked if we could take it. We don't mind caring for this guy, but he has a cracked shell... not sure how that happened or what can be done. Questions: can anything be done for that shell? And if we keep him (or her)...

    Frozen Sulcata

TeamZissou, you're correct. We're very fortunate. He's a strong guy, and we want to keep him that way. I'm working on a new door today! Thanks for your reply.

    Frozen Sulcata

We've had a male Sulcata for about five years. He lives in a 8'x12' enclosure, with a house that's heated by heat lamps and an electric heater. The other night he got out (bumped open the door) and we THINK couldn't get back in. He was out in freezing temperatures (about 25 degrees) for some...
