Okay, here are three pics. First one just after bringing Raph home. The last two are from today, you can see the pyramiding but I wouldn't say it looks extreme...
youngling Raph:
And here are two from today:
In looking at the before and after pics, you can almost see where/how the...
I collected some photos today (harder than I thought, damn phone storage, lol) and here is the photo timeline of what I saw:
Here he is in the pet shop, end of January 2020
Kinda hard to see the puncture... here it is after I brought him home sometime in feb 2020:
Not too long after this...
I realize I am replying to a post that is over a year old, but I thought it worth the bump--- and as I am fairly certain I have a northern redfoot (Venezuelan variety)… and some experience with using coconut oil I thought I would chime in.
When I got my redfoot, Raph, about a year ago he (she?)...
Hi to everyone- I hope you are all staying safe and healthy (or at least sticking to the flu ;) ) Haven't seen any updates for MN on this thread, so thought I'd chime in. here is the scenario as of today, virus-wise:
Gas prices have been reported as low as $1.50 a gal. All schools are closed...
With your UV reading as a guide, I agree with your assessment that a window screen with plants to further diffuse the UV should get us close. I got some window screen in the garage- I'll cut some tonight.
(I plan on getting a solarmeter at some point, but they are pricey. I can see that they...
Not without some major modifications to the enclosure. I could put a screen between the light and the enclosure, and ad some more hanging plants to diffuse the UV... do you think that would do the trick?
If not, I wonder if there a replacement bulb I could put into the same hood to reduce the...
I'm finding it's hilarious and also a bit ridiculous how willful they can be. It's really amusing. I put some amethyst in the enclosure to add interest-really for me not the tort- and upon finding it wasn't edible, Raph bulldozed it over. But what was really funny is that he then B-lined it...
"bye bye plants"...lol" like my two-year old. But you pose a great idea! I'll observe his paths and work around them and see if he leaves the decorations alone. Tho I guess if the decorations only serve my interest I prob don't need them. I plan on putting safe/edible live plants in tho, so...
LOL. Thanks for weighing in. ?
Nice looking redfoot, BTW! I think the charcoal (artist charcoal stick) color of the shell looks awesome- nice and smooth too. How old is he/she?
side note about the rampaging: I wonder if there are things we can provide to give the torts something 'to do'...
Is the nictitating membrane in this picture showing signs of infection, or is this a sign of mild stress? Maybe it looks normal and I'm being paranoid.
Within the past week or so, this tort has experienced an enclosure change and some varying temps as I dialed in the temperature in the...
Based on research and photos I've seen, this appears to be a female- flat plastron and "C" or "U"-shaped scutes under the tail.... a male would have a concave plastron and straighter scutes just below the tail... and a much longer tail in general.
