I need to verify some info I was given and have been applying to my tort care for the past 4 yrs. I was told uvb lamps should run 80% of the length of my enclosure. Is this bad, and what is best? Because if it doesn't need to be so long, I'd like to get a shorter fixture and not have to be...
Forgot to add, I got that advice from this site from a couple of the people who have replied to this original post. Nothing like trying to attack someone who has the best intentions
Hi everyone, I wrote that Facebook post. And the reason I gave the advice I did was because it was given to me about 4 yrs ago when I got my juvenile sulcata. Tyanna is just out to vilify me. I believe the part was left out where my comment was made to someone who had a a 4'x3' enclosure and the...
The eyelid has gone back to covering his eye except for a little sliver. I did notice that when his eyes were closed earlier this morning, the lids were pinkish instead of the color of his skin like they normally are and water is running out of both eyes.
This morning his eye is all back to normal. Talk about a heart attack! I would think that if it was scratched it would still be healing today and he doesn't have any coil bulbs. Before I put him back in his table last night, I moistened the substrate really well so no dust could fly into his...
I do. I work at a pet store so, if necessary, I can take him to the one they use because they take exotic pets. Based in what I've been reading, he must've scratched it on something. Has anyone ever had this happen and what ended up happening? If imagine this happens to tortoises in the wild too...
Franklin was walking around the basement, one minute his eye looked fine and the next time I looked at him he looked like this...
Sometime when he's sticking his penis out, he rises up and his eyes roll back in his head. It looks like one got stuck.
Hi forum, long time, no chat. Summer was a breeze, at least for finding a large variety of plants for Franklin to eat because he mostly grazed outside or I could pick stuff somewhere. Now it's cold in VA. He's been eating a mixture of dandelion leaves, cactus leaf, and Mazuri. The Mazuri package...
So true! I'm a first time tort owner, and 3 yrs ago when I got Franklin, Tom took the time to answer my questions and make suggestions. My tort and I will be forever grateful!

Keep the top off the tote, clip the lights to the side or hang them from above, and cover the whole thing (lights...
The last post was correct. Sulcatas need low protein, high fiber diets. Soak the mazuri in water until it turns into nice, mushy pellet. I keep an old plastic cup with my tort stuff just for that, throw in the mazuri, fill the water up past the pellets because they'll absorb a lot of it, I...
Oh you know it! Here's Franklin, he's 3 yrs old and weighs 10.75 lbs
The last pic was from last yr so he was a little smaller then, he grows nice and steady!
