I'll keep looking. We have a park with a small, man-made lake near my home, and there is a lot of thick undergrowth around 3/4 of the lake - tall weeds, bushes. If he goes there, I don't think it will be possible to find him.
He dug himself a nice trench under the fence of his outdoor enclosure, and I can't find him. I've put up notices all around our area, have searched over and over again, and will call the local vets today. What else should I do?
Also, do sulcatas stick to a territory or do they just keep...
Neenyo wants to eat them, too. I keep moving him to a different part of the yard, but as soon as he can, he makes his way straight back to the buttercups.
RE: Whose in the Pac NW? Washington/Oregon?
I'm in Monroe, Washington (north and east of Seattle).
Trying to provide for a sulcata that fell into my care kind of accidentally.
The size difference is amazing! I think I've got a non-giant, too. He's between 3 and 4 years old, 10 inches, 7-1/2 pounds. I hope he stays petite! [hr]
P.S. - I nearly break my neck trying to keep mine from eating the dog poo. It can't be good for him; dog diet is much higher in protein...
I think so. I use a baby pool for my sulcata, who is 10 inches long. It's the large hard plastic kind. I put it on uneven ground and put enough water in to form a puddle on one end. I also add shade (a portable patio umbrella). That's for unsupervised outdoor time. If I can be outside...
Watch out; it's amazing how fast a tortoise can slip away when you get distracted. I decided to stake up some tomatoes one year, and by the time I realized my tort was missing, he'd crossed the busy intersection up the road and was making tracks for the tall grass around the lake. Whew! Close...
By the way, is anybody else annoyed that when you introduce your TORTOISE, 9 times out of 10 the person responds "oh, I just love turtles!" or something to that effect.
