    Garden for a tort?

Thank you for the list of things to grow and make available! He’s about 20, lives outside, and keeps our backyard pretty mowed down. I cut from our front lawn in the winter and feed him that with hays as a supplement when he can’t get outside too much or the backyard isn’t growing as much. We...

    Garden for a tort?

Hello! I’d like to grow a garden for my sulcata who lives outdoors year round. Was thinking of hardy hibiscus, mulberry, a few greens, prickly pears, hays and grasses, nettles, okay wildflowers, sedum, etc. Has anyone tried this and is there any way to make it more or less self-sustaining while...

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

Do you have a Kane heating pad? What temp do you keep it at? I think my oil heater might have gone out, but I really can’t tell and it’s hard to replace since the design of his shed is so awkward. It was our first one! When we move in a few years he’ll get a new one

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

He’s been slow and reluctant to come out since we got the cold snap here recently! I need to get him a heating mat I think, and get vinyl. Now that I know they sell it Walmart I’ll go grab some today!

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

Could you possibly link your sources for the poly and vinyl you’ve used to layer his entrance? I have trouble finding it in small quantities and clear! Thanks.

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

I’m surprised he doesn’t try to go through your fence! Ours seems to want to go through anything he perceives his head fitting through... I am looking into getting a heat mat, and was coming back here to ask for recommendations, but you’ve already answered me!

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

Yup, it was in Colonial Beach! Small world. I have a CHE and an oil filled radiator. As he gets bigger I think we’ll be getting a heat pad too. But I’ll try layering like you’ve got it, and maybe I can leave his door open more often for natural sun!

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

Okay. Yeah, I wish we knew more about their actual environments too, but your tortoises are beautiful! Thank you for the advice. I’m glad I was already in a good zone with his humidity.

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

Oh good. That’s been about where it’s at. Temps are 85-90 all day. When he gets bigger will the humidity need to be changed, or is it just higher for younger ones?

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

He comes and goes as he pleases. He has vinyl flaps, but I still button it up at night sometimes over the winter because it’s not so great at trapping heat. I’ll layering vinyl and poly like you! I’m assuming you have a heat pad for him? Mine also poops inside during the winter, and I keep his...

    Humidity for Sulcatas winter enclosure?

Hello all! We live in southern Virginia. Our winters a milder than the rest of VA, but still freezing most nights. Our sulcata has a 4x8 insulated and heated outdoor enclosure with UVB, and I was just wondering what the humidity should be like in there.. we have a misting system, since without...

Some dry noises and slight wheeze

Yes! Just gave him one yesterday... I hadn’t thought to do a few more than usual, so I will try that. He’ll get another today! It’s always a little hard to soak him since we have to carry him inside to our bathtub. [emoji28]

Some dry noises and slight wheeze

He’s also about 15-17 years old and 45 pounds if that is relevant info.

Some dry noises and slight wheeze

Hello!! One of my sulcatas has been slightly wheezy and making a lot of dry noises. We try to keep humidity up in his hide, but it’s kinda hard. (We’re investing in a misting system soon...) anyway- he’s already been on one round of antibiotics and the vet says there’s not much more they can do...

    Rehoming in Virginia

I can’t find a thread for adoptions or rehoming, so I’m sorry if this isn’t the place for this! My husband and I have had two male sulcatas (approx 15 and 17) for about 3 years now. They were not so healthy when we got them, living in a tiny tortoise table with no humidity, and being fed dog...
