Our vacation and the Galapagos Tortoise Alliance

Posted on Facebook group 'old school herpers' by Michael Burger. It's suggested these were avaiable in the late i 1950's. "A couple of classified ads circa mid-to-late 1950s from Reptile Jungle, Slidell, LA (Arthur Jones). "

Simple to build, less cost than all wood, limited size night-house.

Well, I just order two more, and I either have a faulty memory or the price went down about $100.

Simple to build, less cost than all wood, limited size night-house.

Total cost not including heaters and thermostat was about $420. It took a total of about 10 hours. This is a first build using this idea, later versions will be better.

    Plants in Backyard

I'd suggest making a second fence separating the border area near the fence from the grass. Or simply making a smaller area for the tortoise. A 100 pound sulcata can sustain themselves on 800 square feet of grass. For neonate care see the sticky...

    UVB Lighting/D3 Supplements

There seems to be a growing consensus that it works okay for forest species and/or those that eat many insects. There are other species that spend much more time in open sun, even as babies, so for them I think using only D# in the diet might be risky.

Another feeding question regarding packaged dried edibles

Organic sourced air dried. Not freeze dried. I mix all the ingredients, for the most part, with fresh chopped grocery greens and backyard harvest. The little moisture from washing and chopping makes enough stick. I mix in a dish pan, whatever doesn't stick today is going to stick tomorrow...

Russian food choices from my yard.

Raspberry and blackberry leaves both are considered moderate feeds by TTT https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/plant-database/viewplants/search/?searchtogglestatus=&searchchoice=exactwords&searchtxt=raspberry&x=0&y=0#.YLUcKKlKgTU as they have tannins. I suspect that is a caution based on making...

    Hey, Kapidolo Farms. . .

Hi, sorry, I just saw this 'chopped liver thread'. Why it (the question) wasn't put in the live naked people thread I don't know? The mysterious workings of our moderator overload's mind. Yes the Hermann's is still available.

What is "treated with poison. (Thiram)

Yeah, most seeds are treated, at least in the US and by proxy, probably Europe too? But this includes seeds used for pastures. So good to follow directions on the seed pack. There are also organic seeds suppliers.
