Well what i wanted to do was grow plants that i feed my tortoises... I figure why not? This way everything is put to use... I really dont want to take the risk of doing aquaponics for myself w/ turtles... maybe tilapia sure... but not w/ turtles...

One thing... they are great diggers specially at a young age... If its a rat.... trust me... they will chew on the tortoise first before they attempt to carry it out... is there any signs of blood anywhere? try digging everywhere.... keep us posted....
This is normal behavior from the sound of it. Just like in the wild, tortoise babies will only come out to feed and bury themselves quickly right after. This is their way of hiding from the predators. Just like all babies, they will eat, sleep and poop... ^_^ Looks like your using coconut...
