I am fed up with replacing heat lamps so frequently & am thinking of purchasing a ceramic heat emitter as everything I've read says they last way longer, despite the increased cost.
Will a cermaic heat emitter put out more or less or the same heat as a heat lamp of the same wattage...
GeeBee seems well, is growing and trots around his outdoor enclosure happily, but does not seem to want to eat much more than Mazuri. He does eat fruit - loves tomatoes - which I give him every 3 days, & wolfs down the 6 grams of protein I give him - chicken breast or more likely scrambled egg -...
Do you feed your Redfioot Mazuri, & if so how oftern?
Though he does not get it every day, if it was GeeBee's decision I'm sure it would be his daily food to exclusion of all other food, he loves it so much! I obviously want to give him varied diet though he loves protein (given every week...
He is 6" long & supposed to be about 4 according to his previous owner. I have a moveable enclosure on my lawn with a 2' x 3' piece of plywood in one corner. It is very bright sun where we live & as soon as I put him in the enclosure he heads for the covered corner & stays right in the corner...
So, every time I put GeeBee in his outside enclosure - every day now & soon to leave him out overnight once it is warm enough in the night)- he immediately crawls under cover.
Question - is he still getting the benefit of the sun & getting vitamin D as a result?
Thanks in advance for the...
Hi - anyone got any more suggestions.
Borax sounds good but is there anything I could treat/spray tortoise directly with that would keep them off. Any other comments? thanks for both responses so far, guys.
Thanks, George
The trouble is it wasn't a visible anthill. The tortoise was on an area of lush growth - on the lawn amid grass and lots of small clover, when around 20-30 ants got on it.
So not really an answer that applies to my case. Thanks for response, though. [hr]
Sorry, maybe I'm stupid but I...
So, I put GeeBee out in his outside pen, as I've started to do now the weather's warm enough, and a while later I went to check on him & found a bunch of ants crawling over him!
I brought him in & rinsed them off with warm water in the sink & put him back in his indoor habitat.
Question -...
Has anyone any experience with Zoo Meds Natural Forest Tortoise Food - supposed to be designed for Redfoots & Yellowfoots.
If anyone has, how does it compare to Mazuri?
Thanks in advance for responses.
I have had my Redfoot, GeeBee, about 2 weeks & he only seems to have pooped twice - once at the vets (took him in for initial check up - vet said other than slight pyramiding he was well) when he pooped copiously on the vet's table, & once when I temporarily put him in a dish bowl when cleaning...
my new to me Redfoot, GeeBee, has started acting weird, for want of a better word. For the first few days he was happy in his enclosure, moving around and sitting under the heat lamp.
Now, he burrows into the substrate in the far corner of the enclosure and when I feed him I have to pick him...
When I got my previously owned Redooft, GeeBee the heat bulb was a 50W. The temp in the enclosure was 75F. I got a 75W & it kicked up to 80F.
I'm not sure if this is optimum or it should be in the high 80sF/mid 90sF, encouraging me to swap my new sealed spare bulb up to 100W with the local...
