Possibly the easiest place to raise Sulcatas is Florida. You don't have to worry about the temperature or humidity for about 9 months of the year. Here's my boys this morn eating edible hibiscus, dandelions and baby carrots right out of the farm soil.

If I had one word of advice for members it would be to NOT treat every word you read as GOSPEL. There is no cookie-cutter advice for raising torts the same as raising kids.

The weather is great so most days I'm able to take the cover off their pen. I've seen them interact with both domestic and farm animals.

Okay, I've been gone for a while because of family sickness where my wife has been diagnosed with terminal ALS. I Also have my animal sanctuary to manage and not surprisingly most of my employees/family have now found other interests. But since this is a tortoise site, that is where my focus...

    Some Spine-Less Cactus

I'm about to give up on cactus pads for a while. I have sliced, diced, and peeled the young tender sprouts and my torts leave them till they wilt.

    Some Spine-Less Cactus

So when do they go from being small to larger? I have two Sulcatas in an outside habitat who eat everything in sight. I have chopped up the spineless cactus only to see it decay enough that I can feed it to my geese. My boys eat Dandelion. Collards. Spring Mix. Wild weeds and grasses. They...

Why is Mazuri so popular, I don't get it.

I totally agree. I own an animal rescue farm and I went through the whole Mazuri fad. And truthfully, it was nothing more than a fad. Animals seemed to like it only because there were so many ingredients to choose from. But once I discovered that you could feed Mazuri Sow Chow to your...

    Sulcata and Sand

One more comment. Mine is not the normal life. This morning with the first cup of coffee in hand I went to my front porch to be met by my Guardian Ackbash Dog. Very rare for him since he doesn't usually meet up with me and the rest of the dogs till we release/feed. He was frenzied. He...

    Sulcata and Sand

Thanks Tom. This is exactly the type of feedback I want. I probably won't answer half your questions/issues but trust me. If I get argumentative tell me to shut up and listen. MANY vets have used those exact words and I appreciate that . First off the picture is deceptive. The enclosure is...
