    UVB Light Recommendation

I would definitely call them. In my experience, they suck at responding to email. It took me over a month to get my last order and when i called they told me what was going on with it. Like i said earlier, their customer service is not great, but the bulb is the best by far.

    UVB Light Recommendation

Megaray UVB bulbs are by far the best out there. I have tested Powersun, Trex, and Megaray with my UVB meter and the other two just don't compare to Megaray. I never tested a Powersun or Trex that got over 100 microwatts, as opposed to the Megarays that get 250 to 300 Microwatts on all the...

    RES Hibernation Question

Haha...the water Hyacinth are all dead now. They lasted about a month or two this summer before the two turtles ate them all. At this point All that is in the water is the filter and the rock for them to get up on. I will be adding a heater to keep the pond from freezing as well. It sounds...

    RES Hibernation Question

Thanks for the response. I was planning on putting a De-icer type heater in that floats on the top of the water and keeps it from freezing. I may look into additional heating if it is needed. I currently don't have any substrate in there. Good to hear it can be done without any mud at the...

    RES Hibernation Question

Thanks Yvonne. My plan is to get a De-Icer heater. It floats in the pond and when the water dips below a certain temp it kicks on. This will keep the pond from freezing. I just want to make sure there is nothing special I need to do.

    RES Hibernation Question

I would like to hibernate my two RES that are about 5 years old and 5 inches long. They have lived inside until this summer when I built them a pond out back. It is an above ground pond that is 8' long 4' wide and 2' tall. It holds about 350 gallons. I live in Southeastern Pennsylvania and...

    Best UVB bulb to use?

DO NOT use Mega Ray. The bulbs are VERY unreliable and they refuse to answer emails/phone calls. If your bulb breaks they do not acknowlege the warranty. Go with a Powersun.

    uv pass thru

Didn't Zoo Med make a large turtle/tortoise green house? I remember pictures on their website a few months ago. I believe that was made out of some type of glass/plexiglass that allowed uv in. Not sure what it is called tho. Ill see if i can track it down.[hr] Here is a link to Zoo Med's...

Has anyone recieved and tested new Mega Rays yet?

Mega Ray bulbs are far superior to every other MVB out ther in terms of UVB output. I have tested Power suns, TRex, and Mega ray bulbs with a uvb meter and Mega ray tested 5 times higher than the power sun and trex bulbs. Over the past year Mega Ray has had a huge problem with the bulbs...

Any way to save power? Bulbs/heaters constantly on

Your electric bill did not double from the lighting for your tortoise. Doing the math the 100 watt bulb for 12 hours uses 1200 watts per day. The 50 watt heater uses 1200 watts per day as well. That is 2.4 kw hours per day. At 15 cents per kilowatt hour you are paying about $10 a month for...

The Best mister/humidifier for your tortoise..is this one.

MistKing.com Check it out. Its a little more expensive, starting at $99. But it comes with everything you need including a digital seconds timer which allows you to have the mister go off up to 8 times per day for as little as 1 second to as long as you want. Produces a very fine mist to...

    About Oxalate Crystals

I think it is overblown a bit too. Your cat or dog is not gona die if they nibble on a peace lily in your home. But...the issue with oxalates and torts is not that they are gona drop dead because of poison. Oxalates prevent the absorbtion of Calcium, one of the most important nutrients for...
