Yes I just posted on here about my RF, he is losing the red spurs on his front legs, I found out he was too dry and didn't have enough humidity. They need around 80% which is alot, I just ordered a small digital humidity gauge off Amazon for 5$ I think it will help me keep him more...
Yes I totally agree and I have been careful. It's a fogger system, and I was using that because I assumed it would increase the humidity. This is my first tort that had such high humidity requirements, I have never had an issue till a few days ago.. I'm am trying to learn and remedy the...
Yes that's what I did in the interim, and just ordered a digital humidity gauge off Amazon for $5. I haven't had an issue for over a year, but it's winter in NY and maybe a drop in humidity has affected him more this year.. his eyes even seem irritated. The rear corners of his eyes are...
Mine has similar pyramiding on his shell, and like I posted just realized I wasn't giving him enough humidity. I've also read that too much protein, not enough/ too much UV and calcium.
She has a pretty shell, do you keep her in a sealed enclosure? I keep mine in an open cage but I keep an eye on the humidity. My male has similar whiteish on his shell. I always assumed it was just hard water or minerals left over from soaking.. but could be dryness too, I just realized that...
Thank you Maggie, I'm very worried and need some one who is very familiar with RF torts. I agree that my enclosure isn't ideal. I've had him for over a year with no issues, this problem is new.. I really appreciate your help, thanks again
Maybe wet wasn't the right word, it's a reptile mister, so it atomizes water, eventually, some of the most ends up on the ground. No different than misting a glass enclosure to make it humid.. I appreciate everyone's advise on my enclosure.. I got very worried about his from legs, with the...
Yes I've been doing some planning all AM. I was almost thinking a wooden frame almost like a tort table, glass top, with access on the sides. There are some good ideas on the web..
One last question.. with the CHE or a RHP heat setup, I have read that RF need uv light for shell growth and general health. You said you use a led. Should or can I use my uv light as well? I'm asking because there is so much conflicting Info everywhere. And as far as humidity, lose the mister...
Thank you for your help Tom. This is the first tortoise that had humidity requirements. So it's just dryness? And the scales fall off from being too dry? So an open enclosure with a mister will never work?Ok well I will go get a new set up tomorrow, I appreciate your help. Again thank you for...
I have read that with the misting system, they are usually ok. The substrate gets very damp, so I run it 12 on 12 off... I worry that his front legs may be some type of scale rot or infection..
Bark and coconut ground up. He has a mister in there and is soaked every night. I just soaked him a few min ago and some of the substrate is on his legs now, but where there red spurs used to be, are now divots. And Brown.
