Hi! UVB light doesn't go through glass indeed (UVA does, but that's not the rays we want). Yes, it's glass window, but we open it when we're home. We have wires hanging outside so birds can't swoop in and snag one of the torts But even so, we leave the UVB light on.

Hi Yvonne and Phebe, I'll look out for these signs! Sometimes I come home and see them eating and then they all eat together (as you can see in one of the photographs). I check them for scratches or wounds regularly and if they show different behaviour. Thank you for your cautions!

Mine were all skiddish. but interacting with them almost every day makes them more open. Slookie got here first and she now loves it when we rub her head (she litterally lifts her head!) and she doesn't hide in her shell anymore. Gandalf and Leia are hiding much less in their shell...
