My cb Russian hatchling (5 mos) seems to have swollen, soft scute seems along one side.
Here is a photo. She is eating and behaving fine, gets 4-5 hours a day of sunshine and regular soakings. During the day she is outside in a grass/dirt enclosure and at night or on cold days she is inside on...
Today I was noticing that the "seams" above the scutes along the top edges of my Russian's shell seem to be swollen and kind of soft. She is outside 4-5 hours a day most days and inside at night with a CHE. Diet is mostly weeds - plantain, mallow, dandelion. Also some cactus and Mazuri 2-3 times...
I have a Hermann's that is now about 200 grams and 4 and a half inches. I have noticed this same thing on him/her, especially the central ridge. I hope someone will be able to tell us if it is anything to worry about.
I've never had a Greek (although I am 1/2 Greek) but I have a Hermanns and so does my daughter and I adore them. They are very personable, not shy, and really responsive. They are easy to care for and not too big. So there's my 2 cents.

So I went to get my Russian hatchlings from the breeder and, lo and behold, he had them with his yearling Hermann's! Of course once they are breeding size/age I will have to figure out something else.
I know people are going to try to talk me out of this, so let me hear it. They are CB both from the same breeder. The Hermann's is a yearling and the Russian is a hatchling. The thing is - housed separatly they will be in a smaller enclosure. Housed together they have a nice big outdoor...
Thanks, everyone. I appreciate the compliments although I just told my husband what I wanted and he hired someone to do it for me. Haven't seen the bill, yet, but I know the torts will love it!!
Like so much else, there seems to be some disagreement here. Are there any Hermanns keepers who keep their torts outside at night? If you do have a heat source, what do you use?
