    Gender Confirmations

Thanks for the info. I’m assuming if they both nip here and there and do the exact same aggression things to each other, still separate them as it really isn’t apparent who is being dominant, unless you go with size, however the smaller one has always been smaller since they were babies and I...

They have been healthy and active together for 4 years, no stress (even with the nipping here and there), no illness. No injuries. The cage is 3’x6’.

    Gender Confirmations

Here’s another gender confirmation. The Hermes are both the same age about 4 years old and I’ve had them since they were babies. One smaller than other. They both nip each other here and there (not injury force), but they hang out mostly together and climb on each other, sleep and nestle in ...

My indian star has developed some blackness around mouth

Thanks overnight around 84. How can I get the humidity up with what you say below (open top dry substrate) below? I’m all for cranking the humidity, it’s just that it drys up so quickly in the enclosure with ceramic heat lamp.

My indian star has developed some blackness around mouth

Thanks he eats Mazuri and spring mix. Doesn’t eat poop. I was curious if he had a mouth problem as he seems to struggle a bit getting food down. I’ve had him for 2 years in August and he really only gained a few grams and still looks like a baby. He is around 30 grams and was 25 grams when I...

Is humidity the same for all tortoise hatchlings?

Thanks - Does this humidity hold true for the rest of their lives or just mainly for when they are young hatchling/yearlings?

Is humidity the same for all tortoise hatchlings?

I’m keeping 80% for both Indian star and hermann tortoises....thoughts? Should the humidity be decreased as they grow older than a year? They will be mostly living indoors as I am in W. Canada.

My solarmeter reading for my Indian star hatchling

Okay, so I’m getting a range of 1.7-2.5 UVI in my enclosure. Im using the T5 -10.0 intensity fluorescent bulb from zoo med. it’s on for 14hrs a day. I am pretty happy with this if I look at the Ferguson range for a tortoise. I will add to this by keeping them outside for a few hours in the...

    My Indian Star Hatchling.

Yep closed chamber. It’s not perfectly closed, so I bought a mistking and installed 6, 50 micron spray nozzles. They are definitely getting moisture. Sometimes it drops to 60% humidity but that is right before the settings for my mistking go off again. I have a weigh scale showing up this...

Please let me know what turtle this is

We are pretty sure we know, but want to double check.. It’s been in family 40 years and has eaten only fruit and raw ground beef. The grandma has been looking after it all these years. Never had a health issue.
