It's so sad seeing tortoises in pet shops, they're so rarely looked after properly! I had a horsefield called aurora and the pet shop had no uv lighting and had really overcrowded their vivarium. Unfortunately she was too ill for me to save but I would love to try again
Here are my beautiful two and three year old hermanns, pixie and Isla. They are constantly up to mischief and are inseparable
The big one with them is my cousins male, pebble, who they like to chase
A tortoise i am possibly adopting is a hermann male age 4. He grew very quickly when he was younger and is very large for his age. His beak has now grown and covers half of his face which has started chipping off.
Does anyone know what to do or if this is an issue?
Haha I like that, we ended up looking round our street and all through our neighbours gardens, we knew she wasn't the type to escape but we didn't think about digging around
one more thing, they work together to climb higher by standing on top of each other and there are many cats around my area so the top will have to be covered up, probably in mesh so that they still have sunlight. Also I'm in the UK so the weather isn't always great for plants.
I have two hermanns, age 2 and 3. They have lots of energy, one that is a keen digger and one that is smart enough to escape her current run however she is still in her flipping over phase. They also enjoy sitting in their food and water bowls.
We are hoping to build a large run to keep them...
Although hermanns are my favourite, I think all tortoises have fairly big personalities, this is why they are such a good pet. Each torty I've come across is completely different, even my two have completely different traits despite being together for so long, they keep life interesting
Since our family hermann passed away I have got two little ones again but my sister has moved out and wants a tortoise to liven up her new house. She would like to adopt and isn't concerned about what age as in our experience they are characters into old age.
I'm in the uk so if anyone knows a...
I'm in the uk and I've found this range that have all different flavours with similar nutrients in and my two can't get enough of it. It's about £8 for a big tub but if you look around you can get it cheaper than that
Oh she's adorable! We'd not thought of that, hopefully once they have a proper outside run we won't have to go digging up the garden every time we need to put her away
I'm a 17 year old and I have bought my tortoises myself. It's a way for me to learn responsibility and they are used in a similar way to therapy dogs, and they have been very successful! I am completely responsible for them and they seem perfectly happy. They are bathed almost every day and have...
