    PETA

Hi, PETA use inaccurate, deliberately misleading propaganda to encourage dangerous and damaging action against lawful activities. They have been behind some malicious and pointless attacks and they give genuine animal welfare organisations a bad name.

Help me with the sex of my Hermanns tortoise

Thank-you! I've been calling it "him" since it was hatched so will need some adjustment! He/she was always the biggest of the clutch - Don't know if that's any indication.

    Issues with incubating eggs

Hi, Since our last exchange, all three of the remaining eggs, including the one I thought was dead, have started to hatch. :) The moral of the story? Never give up hope! :tort::tort::tort::tort::tort::tort::)

    Issues with incubating eggs

Hi, I have a clutch of six Hermanns eggs, three of which have just hatched successfully. Whilst incubating, the eggs were in two, seperate trays of vermiculite in the same incubator. The hatched eggs are all from one tray, the remaining three are in the other tray. It looks as though one egg...

    Outside encloses (UK)

Thanks, Yvonne! Some really useful ideas for when they get a bit bigger - I will save the link. :-) . At the moment, though, unlike Joe in the thread, mine are small enough to be at risk of cats, foxes, seagulls and crows so ColinS's suggestion will suit them well, I think. My conservatory temps...

    Outside encloses (UK)

That was going to be my next question! :) Thank-you, ColinS, sounds like a great idea. I shall action immediately. :)

    Outside encloses (UK)

Hi! Spring has sprung in the UK and I would like my two 8 month old Hermanns to get some proper sunlight on their shells. They are too small for a proper, permanent outside enclosure but I would worry about leaving them unsupervised in the commercially available tortoise runs, in case a fox...

    Leo Died

So sorry. The hurt is the price we pay for the joy they bring us. As others have said, take some time, wallow and cry and swear but don't give up. Again, as others have said, the animals need the people who care enough to try do it right.

    Baby Hermanns moving strangely

Hi, Thank-you all for you replies. TammyJ - the tile isn't smooth and they have no problem walking across it. Bee62, no vet was needed in the end. BamBam1989, I think you were right and he was just trying to bury himself, although I still haven't quite worked out why; maybe something to do with...

    Baby Hermanns moving strangely

Thank-you. He has a vitamin supplement in his food most days. If he doesn't look better by the end of today we will head for the vet. Interestingly, he managed a respectable straight line when I put his breakfast in today!

    Baby Hermanns moving strangely

Hi, thank-you for your replies. Yes, I initially thought he was just trying to bury himself but he behaves like this whatever surface he is on; he is well used to walking to the soft substrate when he wants to. I put him on the tile to better show the odd movement. The temperature under the lamp...

    Baby Hermanns moving strangely

Hi, Bambam, I only noticed it yesterday but it seems to be constant, when he's awake.
