Bob’sMom

Hey everyone, Crista and her tortoise Bob here.
I've had Bobby for almost 11 years now. He was an impulse buy after a bottomless mimosa brunch in Oakland. I had to buy meal worms for my red-ear slider turtle, and I saw baby Bob crawling around. At that time he could fit in the palm of my hand. Now it takes two hands to lift him. Bob is free range in my backyard in Petaluma, California, until the temperature drops below 45 degrees, then I move him into my garage where he sleeps for a few months. But honestly, I think he has adapted to the cooler weather and would rather be outside. Or maybe it just doesn't get quite cold enough for him to go into full hibernation mode. During the winter I avoid going into the garage because if he hears me he wakes up, and then I feel bad for turning the lights off on him. Other than that, Bob is my best friend forever. He is a South African Leopard Tortoise. He mostly grazes on weeds in my backyard but I grow kale and dandelion for him, and when it's time for a treat his favorite is romaine or butter lettuce.
