Crystal Sprinkles’ first egg!

Yesterday my female Russian, Crystal, laid her first egg! Hopefully in a couple months we’ll have out first hatchling.
Make sure the substrate is 100% dry and there are dishes of water in the incubator! Congrats, I have an egg too!

Oh, the websites I was on told me to make the substrate wet. What happens if it’s too moist?
The egg will absorb the moisture and either pop or crack. At first I had mine moistened because of online websites, but on here they all told me to have the vermiculite 100% dry. Apparently Russian eggs are the only ones who need a completely dry substrate. Just make sure that there is humidity in the air by having dishes of water. Good luck!

Oh, wow! Alrighty, I’ll get a new cup with some dry vermiculite.

Actually, a bit of an update on this:
  • We've got more! Crystal laid three more eggs, and they'll be due soon as well.
  • We also might have twins! This first one turned out to be almost two times the size of the other three, and there's definitely a possibility that there's two tortoises in there. That means if everyone survives, we could have five hatchlings!

Wow. What blessing. I truly hope it goes smooth. I’m trying hard and having up and down moments. Best wishes. I care!

Hello,
I am a new member.
Congratulations and best of luck with your eggs.
My Sulcata 5 weeks ago laid her first 4 eggs. three of them I found were broken. One survived.
I placed in a tray with sand. I kept the humidity between 60 and 70. With temperature at 84 to 86 degrees.
Tonight at 5 weeks, the egg cracked open.
Grayish gelatin surrounding dark golden yolk. Was there anything I did wrong?
Sydney is 25 years old, this was her very first time laying eggs.

Oh, man. I read an article on tortoise egg complications like a month ago, and that might be because it’s rotten. I’m not sure, since the article’s a bit fuzzy, but here it is: /https://www.tortstork.com/tortoise-complications/
