It's starting to get colder here, so the cover went on today.

What a great set up!!!! I'm in the works to re-do my tortoise table due to my 4 red foots getting big & it was build for me by a friend. So I want to do it the way I want it :) but they look like some super happy & healthy torts for sure :)

Looks like you got the "tortoise itch" :D Luckily, my four keep me perfectly happy.. which is good since I have no more room or money to provide for more :p Point me in the direction of your new guys' thread. Otherwise, I'll be looking forward to one whenever you get the chance.

@CharlieM and @Jabuticaba : Thank you, thank you! :D

My three love soaking up the rays and will sprawl out and just relax similar to how they do it while soaking.

Wow. Now that is an awesome red foot setup. One of the best indoor ones I've seen. Your torts are growing beautifully as well! Nice job ;).

Thanks, Pete! Now if only they can grow a little faster so they have the full run of the outside enclosure. Unfortunately, I'd NEVER find them in all the plants that they have there while they're this small.

I have to say...I have 4 red foots & I LOVE THEM dearly, however I've always wanted cherry heads & never found them anywhere! After joing the forum, I came across N2TORTS & decided to get 2 cherry heads from him! I'm not quite sure how to direct you to my thread?! I put one up this past Tues & named it- Special Delivery :). I'm not sure if you can look it up or not. But anyways your tortoises look so healthy and again your setup is great! I showed my husband your setup and want to mimic something along the lines of that. I just need a bigger tortoise table. My Redfoots are getting fairly big.

I really need to stop going to Home Depot. All I wanted was a bag of dirt and a backup bag of sphagnum moss. But no. It never stops there. Some people "rescue" animals.. I *just have to* "rescue" plants. Latest addition, a new nepenthes:

My first one that I posted about seemed to have grown more than twice its size in under 2 months in a "redfoot environment":

And the whole reason I actually wanted to go to Home Depot:

(Before)

(During)

(After)

Jingle was supervising me the whole time. She even "watered and fertilized" as she evened the ground out:

Wow this cage and setup are just spectacular. When it comes time for a new cage I know who I'm talking to about plants. Good choice on the thermostat aswell; I love all my herpstats.

My only question( well for the time being) is... What do you do about cage cleaning? Or do the plants take care of most of the work? With that setup and micro-environment I'd imaging a full on bioactive setup would be rather easy(if that's not what you're Lready doing).

Okay I lied... Who produced your RFs?

Nice catch on the Herpstat ;) As for cleaning.. I clean out most of the "junk" on a daily basis. It's impossible to catch every pile of poop or fallen leaf/flower so I let it decompose and feed the soil. My soil is full of springtails and who knows what and I find myself having to actually add more soil, mulch, moss, or soilless mix every month or so. Ask me about salt build up in my medium in a year or two. Because my torts are my own personal gardeners, I never really have to fertilize anything but the hanging plants. However, I'm sure there will eventually be enough salt to be toxic.. dunno when, though. That's when the wet/dry shopvac, a million gallons of water, and a strong lower back comes in.

I purchased my redfoots from Vicki Hale. She's a pretty great person that's been there whenever I've needed any redfoot help. And thanks for the kind comments. Feel free to talk plants or torts anytime. I *might* be able to help :D

1 year, 9 month stats:

Sunset: 23.60 oz., 5-13/16"
Loki: 32.75 oz., 6-7/8"
Jingle: 16.65 oz., 5-7/16"
Punch: 26.95 oz., 6-1/4"

Pics!

So far so good, I think. Loki continues to remain gigantic for his/her age. All of them are still growing steady and smoothly. Also, one of them is now making "honking" noises. It only happened twice that I know of but twice is enough to worry me that one of them will be like Tyrone (@Watsonpartyof4 ) :p

Haa haaa haaa .. What beautiful torts you have! I would be worried too! Tyrone started out. Just once and awhile ..now he goes thru spurts where he loves on his pile of dirt..his rocks..his water dish all day and just wears himself out. Then he sleeps all day the next day. But I wouldn't trade him for anything!

Good luck!!!!
