May, you're always so nice to me! I'm heading up to Winnipeg to give you a hug! I'll smuggle some tortoise treats across the border too!

This is my tank. It's a 55 gallon African cichlid tank. I have 3 yellow labs, 2 Acei, a beautiful sulfur head and 3that I'm a little unsure of. Plan to get a few others to finish it off.

I had my 125 done with these when I first set my tank up. They are beautiful fish, probably the closest thing to saltwater without actually doing saltwater (I want to do saltwater but scared cause I know nothing about it) and they have a lot to choice from but mine kept eating each other and I finally said enough is enough I couldn't take it anymore and changed to something else. I really like those though.

That happened to me when i first started with cichlids. I mixed the wrong breeds... I did months of research and tried again and succeeded! They all have to be from about the same lakes. I also got them because of the similarity of a saltwater tank. I know the care... Just can't afford it. :(

I have heard it's real expensive to set up and get established then once that's done it's not so bad but I have looked at the saltwater fish and I couldn't imagine paying for a couple of them and something going wrong and they die. I love the clown fish but their 20-30 dollars each. I'm to big a penny pincher to pay that for a fish. I won't buy guppies unless their on sale at petsmart for a dollar. Lol.

I'm the same. I basically have a mini zoo at home with 2 dogs, 9 cats (6 are fosters, a momma and 5 kittens), 2 Sulcata tortoises, 3 cockatiels, 2 parakeets, and my cichlid tank. Plus we're about to get a few laying hens. I felt bad enough paying $5 for some of my cichlids. Lol

Nice tanks. Seems a lot of tortoise lovers like aquariums too. Well, heck, I think we just love all animals, reptiles, fish, you name it.
I used to have a 100 gallon salt water tank. When we moved, I turned the tank into a fancy goldfish tank. I miss my salt fish, but it's a lot easier keeping freshwater. Besides the goldfish are so,happy to see me, will even eat out of my hand. I only had one friendly salt water, he, a dog face puff, would let me pet him. If I can get it to work, I will post pics. Wow, they worked. I don't have one of the whole tank.

Those are some really nice fish. Am I seeing right, that black one is an oranda? Those are my second favorite, koi are my first. I love all animals it's safe to say. I have 2 dogs, a rotti and a boxer, 2 cats, both of those were rescue cases, I have my 125 gallon aquarium, a koi pond outside, all my torts, a nice colony of roller pigeons and up until last week I had like 30 chickens and 2 goats but I found the goats and chickens new homes. I think I have cared for just about every breed of dog (I do fosters and rescues a lot) I use to own large draft horses and a few Belgians, even had a pot bellie pig at one point (what a nightmare) I am a single mom now and work any hours so I try and keep my crew down to a manageable number now a days. I usually joke about being 2 pets away from a hoarding situation but I love all my guys and they are all spoiled.

That's neat the way you have those pipes. What is it that's in your tank?
They are Axolotls! its a type of salamander that stays in its aquatic neonate phase its entire life. The pipes are hides, I decided to suspend them for easy floor cleaning.

I only have close-ups of them as babies but here you go.

Years ago here in Florida you used to be able to purchase a special permit to have one. (piranha) Not any more. Even though it's been shown that our water temps regularly get too cold for them. When we get a true cold snap here. IT is crazy what pet store giants come floating up sideways. Still, I'd love to have at least one.

That's a lot like the hedgehog ban they were trying to put through in GA....You do realize they live in African scrub land and cannot survive below 72 degrees right?

Yes, that is an oranda. I actually have one orange, one red cap, the black, moor, fancy tail some kind and a feeder. Looking to get a couple more, maybe lion heads or ryukins. Used to have koi when I had a pond.

Those are really neat. I don't think I have ever seen anything like that around where I live. Now when I was a kid I had my fair share of salamanders and some other things along that line. We use to catch these things, they were orange, got good size. And some other type of salamander like thing, they called them mud dogs or something. It's been so long I don't even remember. I mainly remember getting my butt beat when I would get caught w them in my moms house, lol. Newts, I think is what we caught, I will have to ask my brother, he will be able to tell me. Sorry, rambling. I do like your guys tho.

yeah the larval stage of salamanders are usually called mud puppies or newts...its basically the equivalent of a tadpole except for salamanders. these guys just stay in that sage thier whole life. They are native to the lakes of mexico city but are almost extinct in the wild due to pollution. They thrive in captivity though to there are plenty in the pet trade. They are also very useful lab animals. They have amazing regenerative abilities that are being studied all the time.
