As most of us already know, the incandescent flood bulb is now a thing of the past. Arcadia makes one, but it is unavailable in the US. They can be ordered from England, but take a long time to get here. I found an "unbranded" version in China, but even the Chinese only had a few available, and transit time was more than a month.

So in my search, I found these, and wondered what you think of them. No mention is made re' spot or flood, but being a regular bulb I think that is moot.

Do you think this could be recommended for those of us in the US? How about using a dome to direct the light and heat downward?

Looks just like a Sylvannia BUT it ijust a name and logo that is being licensed by LEDVANCE-- Parent Company Osram took ownership of the Sylvania name in 1993 when it acquired the Sylvania business from GTE in the US. It has licensed the name to LEDvance for use in the US and Canada since before 2017, when it sold LEDvance to a consortium of three Chinese companies. Osram's licensing to LEDvance dates back to July 1, 2016, when Osram had carved out LEDvance and operated it as a separate entity in a phased exit from the bulb business.

Plus on Amazon they are at least $8 and the average review for these current Chinese ones show they get hot, hot, hot! Hit the thrift store, flea markets and garage sales for new old stock.

I think these that you pictured are LED? They are shown as 'replacement' with lower wattage requirement.

I wouldn't say that at all. You can order them online and find them in most states. Just not CA.

Addendum to post 1...

Another member in another thread supplied this link.

I pretended to order a pack of bulbs and it seems that Amazon was willing to ship these to me even with the CA address.

Please take a look at this and tell me if you think they are suitable.

Karen;

The bulb you linked here is a flood incandescent That would be a good basking bulb. Right now Amazon is shipping to California, but they may catch it soon. So order it as they may block it any time.

The other bulb you linked is a standard A19 incandescent bulb. Not flood or spot, regular bulb. It is a "specialty" bulb as it is marketed by Zilla for reptiles and would be a good basking bulb in a dome. These are they types I use now as I can find them on sale on Amazon and there is no problem shipping specialty bulb in California. Most you find really mark up the price because of this, but this is a good deal right now. I found some A19 reptile bulbs on Amazon several months ago for $3.49 ea and ordered 24 - which I used now. But since then can't find them for less than about $7.50 ea.

Thank you everyone for the input.

It seems that right now Amazon is shipping some bulbs to CA, but as Mark said, it could stop at any time.

For those who may not understand what we're complaining about, I found some GE incandescent flood bulbs on Amazon. When I add them to my cart, this is the message that I see...

For right now, the bulbs linked in posts 1 and 2 are being shipped to CA. At any time, they could be added to the 'no CA' list.

I have never used either of these, so I have no idea re' their quality or how hot they get or how long they last. As in any purchase, let the buyer beware.
