Re-posting this under it's own thread so it can be seen and not buried in my other thread...that I posted it in the other day.

So is there anyone on this forum is SC or NC? My husband and I after alot of thought (and we go back and forth everyday, so this post could be premature but i have to start a rehoming search to have a Plan B) have really concluded that moving our EBT's to ME will not be best for them, and we unfortunately have to go to care for a sick family member. They are used to their life in the South and doing what they do, hibernation wise etc. If there is anyone out there in the area who is established and not going anywhere. They are very special to us so whoever they go to has to love the breed as we do. I'm sure that is everyone on This forum lol.....

This is very very hard for us ?? we love our guys, so no negative comments please. We are trying to do what's best for them. If we took them and they died or got sick we'd be devastated, they have had outstanding health the whole time we've had them, except when we "rescued" them, but we did all we could to give them a great life and they have that and we want it to continue. Taking them there would rob them if the Mar - Oct, Nov time they are up enjoying life before going down to hibernate.

We will want to home visit and see your set up, heck we can dismantle ours and move it for you as long as you ensure a good healthy life for them doing what they should be doing and living how they should live. They are very special, and because they are both males have been separated from one another for safety. When we got them they had issues, MBD issues their shells did not for right, so they are not very domed. We have taken every precaution of the years to make sure they are safe regarding their shells and flipping etc :)

If you think you'd be interested let me know.

Just an fyi. Be very cautious if new members that only join to get free tortoises/turtles. They only want free so they can sell them.
Good luck and very sorry you cant take them with you.
Btw, if you tell us where you are moving too, we could possibly let you know if they were be just as well off moving with you. I'm not sure of all the Boxies that live in the colder northern states but some do.

Hello, I am possibly interested. Where do you live in SC/NC? I live in the Atlanta area and am looking to get my first tortoise. We already have our indoor set-up and we have a big area outside in our backyard for our outside area. We are at the point of picking our tortoise. I am a newbie but you can be assured that my husband and I will take good care of your guys.

They are not tortoises they are Eastern Box Turtles and would need to go to someone experienced with them as my post indicates.; But thanks :) good luck in your search

Hey Wellington - I have done that;

Just does not seem feasible, to move them to this climate. We are trying to think of every conceivable way trust me. And we keep doing so daily. As for Maine - we are thinking anything Lewiston or south....looking at the plant zones etc.....

We are open to either tortoises or turtles. If you change your mind, please let me know.

Hey I’m very interested!!! How many, and how old? I’m in NC. I have had turtles and tortoises all my life. I have gotten my son a sulcata hatchling for his birthday last year. 64CBEFD0-9473-40FD-BF41-189E35ECFEAE.jpeg

If you cant find a suitable prospect, here is the info for the small animal sanctuary that recently welcomed one of my rehomed wood turtles. They may be able to take in your turtles or have access to a wider network of trusted people. Good luck! annwnsanctuary@gmail and they have a FB page under annwnfarmandanimalsanctuary

Still trying to figure things out. I work in transportation and things are CRAZY!!! Can't find a new home in Maine to save our lives, bidding wars are insane, buyers waiving inspections etc.. world gone mad.

House prices here have doubled. Regardless of condition.

How goes the adoption front?

Boxiemomma, if you are still looking for someone to adopt, we can perhaps talk? I may not be your ideal candidate…I’ve only had one small juvenile boxy up to this point, and no other turtles/tortoises. I was soft starting the little and planning on moving her outside this summer but she unfortunately passed. I live just south of Charlotte in SC, and I could legally take in your two. Moving your setup might be helpful, but we can build…we have an acre yard fringed by woods, a creek etc. I have all the supplies for a filtered pond (and we will make sure we are flip proof). Hope you are having luck with the house hunt in Maine.

" bidding wars are insane, buyers waiving inspections etc.. world gone mad."

People listen and react to Media.....and given that rates hit historic lows last year, those that can, are refinancing of buying up.

Trick is to find what others are not looking at. If you are just hitting Zillow, you're going to eat bread for a while.

My sweetheart ran into the same thing down here. She lives on the Eastern shore, my home is on the Western. She found a 2200sf, 3br Cape w/2c-garage,1/2 acre in a tree covered community....by looking at the Shortsales all the realtors avoid like they're infected with Covid. There are a lot of folks needing to sell NOW due to covid and sometimes they get foreclosed or get in danger of....and frankly, the bank really would rather just sell it to you! All you need to do is to ask....

It took some risk(paying for inspections b4 your offer is accepted) dealing through her realtor to the owners short sale-management company but she hounded them nearly daily and they got it done.

Like I said, if you will have some lump sum available for any repairs etc, a short sale is not a bad, lower cost option b/c most lack the confidence to pull it off. She was even able to secure a Fed Rural loan on the property at sub 3% rates b/c of it's location and she is a Elem school teacher.

sry 4 the offtopic rant.....

If your still stuck for rehoming, Kerry and I will be on the SC coast (Murrells Inlet/Georgetown) tomorrow afternoon...for a weeks time. Shoot a PM....
