I just came across this photo of a tortoise on a Facebook post. I do know what it, I just wanted to post it on here for people who do not know what it is to put their guesses. If you are wondering, the tortoise is in a private collection in the US. Please put your guesses below, if you already have Pryor knowledge of what it is please do not spoil it.

Looks like maybe a radiated x Sulcata hybrid? If that is even possible?

Haha they are saying Aldabra x sulcata never heard of a 24in plowshare
If it really is, which I doubt, that would be really really sad and disgusting and whoever did it should, well I won't say, but I bet anyone could guess.
I really don't think it is. I bet more on a ploughshare.

Based of what I know about plow shares I can determine that it is not a plowshare based on the gular scutes and the size if that is in fact a plowshare it is the world largest one

The sulcata traits are clear as day here. It’s obviously a hybrid with sulcata but I would have guessed radiated as the other parent, not having an obvious size reference in the photo I perceived it to be smaller. But studying the grass, etc. on the ground seems to confirm that it’s quite big. I think it could be exactly what is claimed. It is clearly still growing rapidly (given the most recent wide growth ring).

Not something I condone, but I would be curious to see how big it ultimately grows.

If its in fact that size. It does have the real round helmet shell and coloring though.

I guess I am in the distinct minority in these parts. I enjoy seeing cross-bred tortoises; they are quite interesting. We do it with dogs (purposely, and occasionally with randy, fence-jumping males), cattle, etc.

Dogs are all the same species. Torts are not. Completely different things. Dogs are also domesticated, can be relatively easily shipped all over the world, and we can get more anytime we want. Not so with tortoise species.

Further, the practice of mixing species and letting them live together can, and frequently does, result in disease transmission and dead animals. Behavior incompatibility is also a serious, but usually overlooked, problem.

The practice of hybridization should be discouraged in every way possible.
