My red foot has developed what looks like a cut right at the back of his head where it attaches to the soft skin on top. I can't imagine anything causing this aside from his own shell. Any thoughts? Attempting to get a picture of the wound but the phone scares him so getting a good picture of the wound has been impossible so far. I don't know if there's anything I can do other than hope it doesn't get infected and add get tortoise used to phone on the todo list.

Does he have his own enclosure or does he share?

Is there any damage or sharp or jagged parts on the torts shell that could cut it?

When I thought of it I thought what are the chances but then you ask the same question so I looked and yes there is a sharp spot in the right area to cut him there he is cut. Looks like I'm going to have to find a way to file it smooth. Hopefully if I only take what I have to to make it smooth I won't come up against any nerves.

If it's more of a superficial wound, some regular antibiotic ointment is okay to use. If you want to pick up something specifically for animals, I like Vetericyn myself.

He all alone. The tank is to small anyway. But I need to find the money to build a bigger one. Stupid covid making life harder

I feel you there. May I suggest a grow tent? It's such a wonderful budget enclosure for (indoor) red foots.

I do have a regular tent...no the fire risk is to high. I can still consider your grow tent idea though.
