First paragraph........whoa.....WHAT was he selling!? ?

➡️ Lucas, a former assistant curator of herpetology at Oklahoma City Zoo, committed a trafficking crime of selling an endangered Galapagos elephant while employed at the zoo.

Here are a couple that don't read like they've been translated by a computer. There are plenty more on Google if you search for the perpetrator's name.

I'd say he got off easy. Maybe his zoo career is over, but the restitution value is way too low. No jail/prison time for stealing, or will that be another charge? Not to mention the damage to institutions he was associated with, the OKC zoo, TSA, AZA. Not to mention corrupting the studbook or species survival plan.

Not that it's impossible for him to have acted in total secrecy, but it seems like there would have been some complicity among peers at the zoo. It further builds the divide between zoos and private keepers. Zoo's often will not 'trust' entanglement with private keepers, at least the OKC zoo can't even trust their own staff. This is one of the few bigger zoos in north America I have not visited. Really makes me wish I had from back in the day as a reptile keeper at the Philly zoo, i could get behind the scenes tours easily.

Hate is a strong word, but I think I hate this phucktard.

I agree, and I'm also very confused by the lack of prison time. I think our environment's at a point where we need to start punishing more harshly for such crimes. We need to send a message about the protection of these endangered species. This is ridiculous.
