Sorry if I offended you in any way, I'm just not comfortable disclosing where I'm from
I can understand that to a certain point. It's just that it puts a serious crimp in our ability to give you any good advice. A lot of tort husbandry is location and climate dependent.

We'll see if it comes up...it's a bridge that can be crossed later. :)

The only thing that stops me saying it is a juve heoemys spinosa is the colouration of the head. Can you take a photo of the plasteron?

If the plasteron is 'undecorated' such as the attached there is a good chance it is a yuwonoi. Spinosa have a very ornate plasteron.

I think they are indeed yuwonoi. At least we can rule out spinosa and leaf turtles.

The image I posted was from a (very illegal) yuwonoi auction going on today. I asked a seller about a forsteni a while ago and he has been relentlessly adding me to sketchy WhatsApp auctions ever since. I would never participate but it is interesting. The buy it now price is only around $40 with 2 free Malayan snail eaters.

BTW I think the rambutan in your picture gives away your location a little bit ?

wait, if I'm not mistaken, L Yuwonoi is not protected under indonesian law, I reached out to local authorities and they pointed me up to this document P.106 2018 (which does not include both yuwonoi & Forsten) (or at least not the same protection as M Emys / rote island sideneck turtle). Which is a total shame ?.

oops ✌

Oh, that's crazy. I assumed all these auctions were illegal, as the yuwonoi situation is parah. The most common auction is fly river/monbi, usually several a week.

I know forsteni are not yet protected. There is a strong indication they will be protected with the next UU, and I really hope they are. I also hope to get a small breeding colony from a responsible source if and while I can.

Yes thats crazy indeed, recently there is a disturbing amount of critically endangered tortoises circulating in the markets, domestic endemic species and imported ones. I really do hope the authorities got their bearings before its too late?

I know some ppl that breed elongateds with a little mix of forstenii, but havent found a reputable breeder soecifically working on forstenii.

Yes, there are reputable breeders of Emys too, but they all export to the US. While the price here is < 800k per adult, there is no possibility that CB individuals will be released to the local market.

Funnily enough I was in contact with an elongated breeder, maybe one of the ones you know. Quite amazing that is already established here :D
