This morning I was sitting with my tortoise and he started acting strange, he was sitting and moving his head around and rubbing his head, he seemed super uncomfortable. He was opening his mouth a bit and then he made a squeaking noise. It sounded like a mouse squeaking for comparison. I’m quite worried as I know opening mouth a lot and squeaking is a sign of a respiratory infection. His behaviour is normal and he’s eating, pooping, peeing and being active as normal. There’s no nasal discharge as I know that’s a big sign of a ri. He dosent open his mouth very often, he seems to do it before he eats whenever I do see him do it. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it but recently whenever he opens his mouth (like when he’s eating) he makes a sound, and it kind of sounds like a duck quacking. Do you guys think this is an ri?

So glad it’s not ? I’m not entirely sure honestly, dosent seem like a yawn to me as I’ve seen him yawn before and it’s not like that
There are so many diseases or things like open mouth breathing that tortoises get, so, if all is well, eating drinking pooping etc. Stop worrying about it, just keep an eye out and be aware she might be sick, just not sick right now kinda thing.

These are the early signs of a respiratory problem. Try to increase the temperature in the enclosure to 85 or 90 degrees in the daytime and 75 to 80 at night. If these symptoms don't improve in a few days (or get worse before getting better) seek out a good vet for antibiotics (ceftazidime only, no Baytril) and don't allow any vitamin injections.
