Hey everyone,

I've noticed for the last week or so my 11 month old baby tortoise makes noise at night. Especially at the beginning when I turn off the light. After he does a few times, he then stops for the rest of the night. He doesn't make these noises during the day or anything. He's perfectly normal, he eats, there no bubbles coming from his nose and there isn't a white mark left by his noise either.

Let me know what you guys think!
Thanks

What does it sound like? Mine became more active at night as she got older. Here's what I sometimes hear:

1. Scratching/digging around to find a place to settle down for the night. Sometimes their legs scratch or squeak against their shell.
2. A shorter version of the "tuck-up-and-hiss" sound. Sensitive torts need a moment to adjust to shadows/movement in the dark
3. The grating of cuttlebone - mine really loves late night snacking

There's another thread going on where someone mentioned their baby redfoot is making sounds like an adult male (sounds like a chicken - if you're brave, here's a video of a tort making the sound while enjoying his blankie a li'l too much ? )

What the heck?! Is that sound in the video normal? I’ve never heard of a tortoise making sounds like that ? I have a Hermann’s tortoise who will be 2 in May. Recently he has gotten friendly with a rock in his enclosure and he just makes the typical squeak sound with his mouth open and his tongue hanging out.

I finally got a chance to listen to the little guy. I think he was reacting/singing along to the music in the background, not so much mounting the blanket. How utterly adorable!!
