Hi, may I know what breed my (what looks like a) turtle is? I recently got it as a gift and I can't seem to search its breed. If possible, i would like to know the gender of this turtle. Thank you very much!! Now its a hatchling with a darkish brown shell with a beautiful coloured (red, yellow, orange, brown, maybe grey??) bottom. It has a yellow line on its face. It looks more like a turtle than a tortoise to me. It can swim underwater. It does not eat cactus, hibiscus, or carrots. However, I do find that it loves lettuce and tiny shrimp, and two local plants that i don't know the name of (pictures at the back).

It looks like a yellow slider turtle to me, but I'm no expert on turtles or torts, for that matter. If so, it's an aquatic turtle.

Looks like an Asian box turtle to me.

Cuora amboinensis...Malayan box turtle. A tropical species that must not be kept below 70*F, and needs a basking of 90*F. This species requires a sizeable water feature in their enclosure.

Box turtles are omnivores (eat-it-all), and are more carnivorous (meat-eating) as youngsters; they will ignore vegetation when they crave meat. A live goldfish twice a week would be appreciated.

The second leaf photo looks like Amaranth...Bayam? Very nutritious, but very high in oxalates. Less worrisome for water turtles and young animals, but can cause kidney problems in older subjects.

Some more feeding ideas for aquatic turtles:

Gender identification has to wait until a turtle reaches close to its adult size.
