I have a quick question. I have read several things about certain uvb bulbs not being good for tortoises. I think it was mercury vapor bulbs? Just checking on mini fluorescent bulbs. Are these ok? Thanks in advance. I have a red foot.

The coiled bulbs can burn tortoises' eyes and are not recommended. Use fluorescent tube uvb lamps instead.

Both cfl type flourescents and MVBs are not good over tortoises.

What species have you got? What size? We can make sure you've got the current and correct care info. Most of the care info you find out in the world is simply wrong. Has been for decades and most tortoise keepers are still doing it that old wrong way.

Just right now coincidentally saw one of Chris Leone’s videos pop up in my YouTube feed though it’s dated 2 months ago. He happened to mention that his group of rescue baby red-eared sliders grew quickly because of good diet and captive conditions versus wild. So, it just reiterates what Tom said. ?
