Hi, I have been feeding my 2 y/o leopard tortoise the LS mazuri diet for some time now (the pea sized pellets). However, his poop I have noticed is a bit watery from all the greens. I have heard that torts should be a certain age before feeding hay (and he is very picky) so are there any better pellet/ mazuri mix- ins I could try out for him?
Thanks in advance!

Regular leopards aren't big on hay. Some won't even eat grass.

The regular Mazuri (5M21) is good, and I really like the ZooMed Grassland, Forest, and Gourmet pellet offerings. The ZooMed pellets take a while to soak, and it takes most tortoise a while to get used to them, but they are a great supplemental food. All 3 types are fine for your leopard.

Also look into the many dried leaf offerings from Will @Kapidolo Farms and herbal hay from @TylerStewart from tortoisesupply.com. All of the above is a great way to add fiber and variety in addition to the pellets.

Ok thanks, I have the zoo med grassland pellets and have found they are hard to soak and he doesn’t prefer them but after awhile he should come to terms with them! I’ll look into your other suggestions, and the other mazuri pellets.

Soak a tiny broken piece of one pellet for a couple of hours. Tiny. Then mix it in with the big pile of greens for the day. It should be hardly noticeable.

Ok I’ll give it a try, thank you for all of your help! Just one more question, should I be including pellets everyday along with the variety of greens? Also, I know everyone is different, but some say that tortoises should only be fed 5-6 times a week, what have you had success with? I don’t want to deprive him of food if he is still hungry.

They should be fed daily. Tortoises are grazers. Skipping feeding days is old incorrect info.

I don't like to feed any one thing every day. Its best to mix things up and feed them a wide variety. I do Mazuri once or twice a week, and the ZooMed pellets of one type or another once or twice a week. Other days I feed them weeds, leaves, store bought greens with dried mix-ins, opuntia pads, etc...
