@KarenSoCal @Chubbs the tegu it looks like I may be adopting the sully but I still have a few questions. Where do I get a fortress like the one you showed me without having to go to China? Do I really still have to do daily foot massages cause my Russian is getting jealous. Is a sullly foot fetish a bad thing? Their feet are so darned cute! I don't want his owner to think I'm lewd, you know, taking pictures of his feet.

OK, here we go!

Sadly, you will have to build your fortress. I spoke with the Most High Man of Fortresses in China about getting a piece of that one. The thing is around 1000 miles long...you only need a short section, right? He mumbled something about a great wall, and then started yelling about a clock! Tick, tock...then he got really mad and it was hard to understand, but I heard Wuhan and corona-something...I guess he was talking about the sun. Anyway, he's nasty and rude, and won't give you a single piece.

Now, the foot thing is a bit concerning. I've heard taking pictures is an entry into weird stuff...like toe jam collecting, lotion overdose, and foot binding (we're back to China).

If you're willing to chance all that, go for it! It should take a couple years to be end-stage...playing footsie in inappropriate places. ;)

Maybe I could cajole the Most High Man of Fortresses in China into giving up a piece - of the wall I mean. I really appreiciate the lengths you went to trying to get a piece of that fortress for me, perhaps he meant the sun wasnʻt up yet since he said something about corona - that could be a reason for rudeness. Then again, he could just be a rede person in general.

Welllllll about the foot thing, I like pictures and I like watching.

I thought it was hot tar and not oil, but people here are way more experienced than I am, so I didnʻt want to step on any toes. Speaking of toes, arenʻt they the cutest?!

Well after all that, the sullyʻs owner is taking him back. The transfer of power will take place this Sunday in case anyone is interested in attending. Thank you for all your weird insights and oversharing. Itʻs truly been a lovely thread.

Hello, I am still very new here and have a couple of questions about sulcuta care. I will be baby-sitting a 2 year old tortoise for about 2 weeks and would like to know if there is anything specific I need to do? I have a Russian and I know they have different needs. He will be kept outside during the day and indoors at night. The information I’ve found here is a couple of years old so I wasn’t sure if there was more up to date information that I should be following. And from information found here I WILL NOT even consider putting them together. Thanks so much for your help!
Hasn’t the owner given you instructions for his care and feeding? I spent 2 hours going over it with my sitter and was only gone for a weekend.

Well, sorry to say he isn't the brightest. He tries to taste everything. Chomp! Nope, doesn't taste good....next chomp chomp umm good, chomp chomp (leaves hanging from his mouth) next...sees a pebble. mmmmmmm. Are they all like that? Compared to him, my Russian is almost petite and neat.
Sullys will eat you out of house and home! He is a big commitment but worth it!

Lol! She said he eats hay, romaine and s#}t. I was feeding him stuff that I fed my Russian- I mean my sons Russian. I just can’t seem to have my own tortoise!

I want my own! After taking care of one, and babysitting one, I think I can tortoise. Heck after reading these posts and gauging the mental state of the members here, I can definitely tortoise!

trust me .... it’s one thing to “sit” or take care of one...... but owning one is a whole new bunch of bananas. You might THINK you want one.
Now ask yourself..:
Do I have the room
Do I have the time
Can I go out for long periods of time
Can I go on vacation
Can I bring my new friend with me
How much does it cost to maintain their stuff as they grow older
Am I home enough to let them out of their cage for a couple of hours
What happens when I go back to work full time?
These are just SOME questions you can ask yourself....
But I don’t discourage you...
I just want you to get a plan together before you impulse buy.
If I knew then what I know now....
I would have looked up—— “ fish”
They are cool too!!
especially the “Cow Fish”. (Look it up).?
They’re sooooo cute!!!
AND SMALL!!
And... Stay IN the tank! ?

Thank you for the list! Yeah my son is 13 so I already live through all that lol. If I could have one I would love him and squeeze him and call him my own. Buwahaha!
