Hello Im Richard, just recently got myself a lovely little sulcata fella named Coco (cho'-cho'). A month at most.

So I've read couple of newbie guide from this forum, saw lot of youtube and taking advices from local tortoise farm owner (they're pretty nice guys).

But, i would like more in depth knowledge which i hope i can get from pros/experienced owners here so i decided to join here.

I'll attach some pictures here of my sulcata and my table set up (i use metric, sorry!).

Here's my Coco the baby sulcata (6-7cm) grazing under light sun, its rainy season and we only get like an hour or two of sunlight for the past week. I try to soak him daily and let it play under the sun for 15-30min ish each day whenever available. Poops regularly, but never when soaked. Not much urates, but i found the sometime. Scattered little pieces.

Here is where he live for the last 2-3 week. I use coco husk (packaged for tortoise) which i water sprayed daily. I use uvb on the left and uva (hot lamp) on the right. Both exoterra. The box size is 60cm x 40 cm x 15 cm, which i wish it is taller. On the left is the hiding cave, bottom left is water dish, and food this on the middle. Temperature is min 30 celcius, max 40 celcius (under the hot lamp, which i try to spot in).

I recently add couple of adjustment on the table it as follow

I add some wood bark substrate, bryum moss around the hiding cave, sphagnum for bedding, and Hair Grass. All of this om hoping to maintain moisture, because i find coco husk dried up easily.

So my question is :
1. What is the pros and cons of my table set up?
2. Is bryum moss, sphagnum moss, and hair grass is all safe ? Anything i should be aware of? I'll post the hair grass up close, found some leaves eaten today when i got home
3. My sulcata really loves mazuri pellet, the original and i found him hardly eat greens. Here in my country vegetable called sawi, fumak and siomak is commonly fed by breeders (the are some kind of mustard greens) but it seldomly ate them, if so not so much. Same case as grasses. I trick him into eating greens more by chopping it to little pieces and mix it salad style with mazuri pellets, and boy it knows how to aim. What is the best way to make more greens into its diet?
4. I use reptile oil, which i think is made from coconut oil. Rubbing it lightly on its carapace and plastron. Mixing a little sometime on its diet. I trust the product because is sugested by many local breeder here. Is it really helpfull? Anything i should be aware?

Well i think i write a bit too much for now :D

Kindly help me raise my baby dear folks !
Love

The enclosure needs to be an enclosed chamber enclosure with high humidity, 80% and temps no lower then 80 with backing 95-100 all at tortoise level.
The could bulb needs to go as they have been know to cause eye problems. No hairy type moss as then can get tangled around legs and necks and intestines if swallowed.
Stick to just the info on this forum. It's the only updated info around.
Read all the care and housing threads in the sulcata section and make changes asap

Oh and that disc gauge you have is very unreliable. Switch it out with any digital.

Your baby was started incorrectly and much too dry. This, unfortunately, is the case all over the world. You need a closed chamber to give your tortoise the correct growing conditions, and it needs to be much larger than what you are using now.

When the breeders doesn't introduce them to the right foods and variety, it makes it much harder for the new owner. You will spend months slowly introducing your tortoise to the correct foods.

Here is the current and correct care info:

Questions are welcome.

Hi, tom while i'll try my best to follow the guide lines here i just want to share that i somehow manage get constantly 81% humidity. I think its the weather on where i live.

I noticed that the humidity outside the room where i keep my baby is around 62% ish. Me and wifey will keep watching the humidity while make preparation for closed enclosure if the humidity falls down. But this time around on where i live, rainy season is just starting. I do hope humidity is still favourable for the next 3-4 month.

My problem today is i found my baby torts try to climb the hair grass. The little bugger really likes to hang around the grass, but just today he hangs around the other side (next to the corner walls). Adjustment coming up.

Thx for the pointer yesterday Tom, while i wont be able to make and instant 100% exact adjustment, i'll try to work towards it and achieve what is neccessary.

Kind Regards.
