I recently purchased some cuttlefish bone for my baby hermanns to get extra calcium and came across the below one from Amazon. The baby seems to really enjoy the product and nibbles on it non-stop. They are not real cuttlefish bone, and made from cuttlefish bone power and other ingredients.

Ingredients are listed below:

Calcium Carbonate, Cuttlefish bone Powder, Flaxseed oil, Thiamine Hydrochloride, Natural Flavor

is this good for hermanns baby?

No sure what you are asking. It seems some wording may have been left out of your title.

I wouldn't use that. Honey? Get a regular cuttlebone. They work great.

The "enriched" flavors might make the baby over eat it and munch too much. Sounds like that is what is happening.

That is what I’m afraid of... the baby just likes it too much which made me feel suspicious and started looking the ingredients and found that it is not a real “cuttlefish bone”...
I also bought cuttlefish bones from a different brand (pic below). Haven’t received it yet. is this real one? Where do you usually go to get a regular cuttlefish bone? @Tom

Plain ordinary cuttlebone not enhanced with anything is what you want. Not the one pictured.

They’re very cheap. So cheap that it can be difficult to buy them in small quantities sometimes

That looks like the real one.

I buy mine in bulk by the case. I have 27 adult tortoises, 15 of which are egg laying females, plus hordes of growing babies at any given time, so buying two cuttlebones at regular retail price wouldn't be a good way to go for me. I get 5 pound boxes that have dozens of cuttlebones in them. For most people, a $63 box of cuttlebones would be quite a lot more than needed.

Thanks for the advice! I will try to see if can find them in bulk. I am so used to order everything from Amazon and can’t find any seller who sells the cuttlefish bone in bulk...

I purchased a 11 Pound box of 6" to 8" cuttlebone from Amazon for $83.00. They were sold in 5 pound box or 11 pound box. I only have 1Tortoise & 1Bird (Rosie Bourke Parakeet) the reason I bought many is because I was paying $2.99 for one, as long as I keeping them clean and dry I believe they will last forever. The 11 pound box had just over 100 cuttlebones. You can order different size cuttlebone also.

I never thought about collecting them and selling them until I saw this post. In a single day on some beaches near me I could pick up a few thousand of them. I wonder what impact it would have on the environment if I depleted the cuttlefish bones too much though.

They need a lot of soaking and rinsing to remove the salt and any other contamination

Well, you could definitely look into it. There are lots of people out there (like me) who have no access to any beach and are willing to purchase them at 2 or more bucks per each?. You might have to clean them up before they can be commercialized. BTW, the one I bought from living world is 9 dollars for two... and it was on sale...so...not cheap...
