Hey everybody. My pet tortoise which my family has had for around 12 years recently ran away. He most likely escaped from being placed in the kitchen and the door at one point was left open. He ran away around Oct 16, 2020. He is an Eastern Box Turtle from Texas. I am gravely concerned for his wellbeing. I called a vet and they said, "Its possible he could survive. It depends on a variety of factors." The vet explained that if there aren't many predators and he finds food he could very likely survive. Still, I am concerned. I don't know if he'll find water.
There are creeks nearby. We live up in the mountains where its green basically (though we aren't exiled from humanity, buses come up here.) so there is some food I assume. Its a green land except for parts where its orange from forest fires. It can reach 40 degrees in November, and 35 degrees in December here from what I'm seeing on the weather sites online. The creeks flow gently but there's a part with one creek which gets violent.
Honestly, I don't think my Reptar is going to make it.
He was my best friend these last four years. When I was six years old, my dad asked me if I wanted him and I said, "yes". I regret that now. He helped me in my darkest moments. I regret not being responsible. These past few days have been extremely horrid for my mental health. I have fallen into a deep depression and at night, I have dreams of being reunited with him.
I post this for two reasons: to just get this off my chest. And to ask if anybody has had any similar experiences.

personally i think as long as he was healthy there is little doubt he'll make it , your weather won't kill him , as long as someone doesn't pick him up or run him over he should do fine............ the box turtles around here actually literally get frozen for short periods of time in our winters ......... here if they don't find a decent hibernacula they don't survive , we can get 0 and below for a week at a time , the frostline here is 36-42" ....... at 35 they could be pretty much out in the open without a problem ......

Welcome my new wee friend.
I am so sorry to hear this.
I say : DONT STOP LOOKING!!!
DONT GIVE UP!!!!
Walk around by the streams, call his name?
Bring his favorite food outside and leave it there to see if he comes back, yell for him,
Post pictures in the town for a “lost turtle”?
You still have time before November and especially December!!
Good luck and Best wishes to finding him!
I am sending prayers and hugs ?.
P.S. — look around in your dream to see where you are when you find him and go there the next day!!!????
Go find him!!!! ?
