Two days ago I put him in some warm water and sat outside with him and he opened his eyes. Sadly I haven’t been able to take him out because the sun hasn’t been out and it’s starting to get cold. Today he hasn’t opened his eyes at all even when I put him in warm water. He try’s to eat but I think he’s to weak because he stretches his neck out and opens his mouth but can’t bite into his food.

Be prepared..this will be a little time consuming. Go get a couple jars of baby food..one that is greens. One that is just carrot. Mix half carrot and half warm water to soak him in. Make sure it stays warm and watch him. For the other baby food put that in a medicine dropper with a little warm water mixed in it and put it in front of him. He just open his mouth to eat it..put a little at a time in his mouth and he should go for it

please note these bumps will not go away without the proper meds they are as we are finding out they are bacterial and they may not even have an effective anti biotic to use against them we are not sure yet. testing is being done but to be sure we need more samples. and even when they go away on the outside the granulomas remain inside their body on the organs. no offense to anyone but the baby food soaks will do nothing overall for the bacterial bump issue. i hate to say this. we had three one passed and the other two remained alive after the bumps on the outside went away but they are still on the liver, kidneys etc from the necropsy done. they are very contagious.

Oh no:/ and y’all treated them with meds to get rid of the bumps? My other one has the same thing but they look more like spots then bumps how can I prevent it from getting worse?

the meds so far have only cleared them up on the skin not internally. and the meds MUST BE injected either via iv or into the muscle to even have a chance to be effective. this is systemic (through the whole body) we need sample biopsies of more of these to be sure of exactly what we are dealing with. we have a lot of info now but want to be sure all the cases we are seeing are in fact the same bacteria. IF this is what we may think it is there really is no anti biotic that will be effective enough at this point. but again we need another 4-5 samples to be sure this is not more then the one thing we have found so far.

see your vet and they can take a small sample punch of one or more of the bumps. and yes it would be a huge help. the lab costs are being covered by us and the lab so you just have to cover the vet once you have it set up get with me and i will get you the info of where it needs to go and to whom to send it to directly there we are working with one of THE best labs in the country as far as torts go very closely on this.

or if one of them passes or you would like to send one in anyway get with me personally and i will send you a pre paid shipping label and let you know how to pack them and prepare them so they stay good on the way there. that is another way. then you have zero costs at all.

I'm doing that to make sure she eats some..I do carrot soak once a day, and warm water 3-4 times a day. She had gotten worse and couldn't get food down anymore so I started baytril injection and fluid injections every day. Today was day 5 and she eating again and has more energy. Like @mastershake said, there's no proof that baytril will cure this. Or that any current antibiotic will..but all of these steps are keeping her holding on until the labs gets more definitive answers..which should be soon???

you need antibiotics and they must be injectable the issue is without more samples we are only guessing which will be the correct one if you see what i mean. try to continue to soak them. i dont personally believe in the carrot soaks but you are welcome to try. if you have silver sulfadiazine cream (script only) that can be applied to the bumps it *may* help but only the ones on the surface of the skin not inside. the issue we have is without more samples to test against the possible anti biotics its a shot in the dark if you see what i mean. we are doing everything we possibly can im even covering shipping and the lab is working with us as far as cost etc we want to know what this is and asap. also make sure to watch what you touch after handling them and do not let them out. keep them as if they are in full medical quarantine.

no not at all. we do not at this time believe this is zoonotic but it can and may affect other torts. they do a necropsy on them. which is why i recc only sending them if they have passed or you think there is nothing whatsoever else you can do to try to save them and then they humanely euthanize them on site and then do the necropsy. this allows them to thoroughly go through the entire animal and find anything and everything.

now if you go to your vet and have them remove one of the lesions and send that in they do all the same testing on that sample but can only test that sample if you see what i mean.

now please please know i dont want ANY ONES tort to die on them, but IF they do pass a full necropsy is the best way to get ALL the info and testing done.

and IF and i mean IF (im hoping for the best for you of course) one passes i will pay for and cover overnight shipping to the lab if its something you would like to do to get an answer as to why and know the exact reason they did pass whether its from this or something else entirely you would have an answer.

Yes for sure I will let you know. But my other tortoise has spots do you think it’s the same thing? If so can I treat it before it gets worse?

Yes probably the same thing as it is very contagious.
Look over the forum for yellow bumps.

yes its almost positively the same thing this is highly contagious we go back to the issue of needing more labs done to know the exact things to properly treat this with (if there is anything that will help)

For now to be honest I would just throw away the box get a new one. Remove the water dishes you can boil them out for a whole or simply get the clay sources for 1.50$.
I would do the carrot soak. @KarenSoCal possibly can give you exact “recipe”, also @shawnateerow has been dealing with this and might be able to provide some diet.
Possibly use paper towels to throw them away? I don’t know just an idea.

We are sending all the positive tortoise energy to your babies and you !!

The baby food soak are not given to offset any bacteria, the soaks are intended for chelonia who are not eating. They get Vitamen A from the carrot soaks. The A soaks in thru their cloaca and the soft skin in their neck, and of course, they injest some while soaking.
