I am so sorry for your loss. How long had you had her?

Did you happen to notice any yellow bumps or yellow spots on your baby, at any time?

Check with @Markw84 and @Tom regarding hatchlings. Do you have a large yard for a full size sulcata?

Most people don't start babies correctly. In fact, almost no one does. Many of them don't survive. You are not alone.

They lay eggs in winter, so babies in spring is normal. Two of the four sources that I used to recommend are no longer viable. You can try Austin @Arizona Sulcata , or you can wait for mine in spring.

Read these so you know what goes wrong, and how it should be done.

If you manage to get a healthy hatchling from a breeder, and you provide it with all the correct conditions and diet, it will not be at all hard to care for. As long as it is healthy when you get it, which may be difficult to tell, so get an expert to come with you when you go to check it out. It's the right start that's the key to being successful with them as they grow.

Babies are very easy. They just have to be done correctly.

Here is how to raise and care for them:

It might not be a bad idea to prepare an enclosure according to the guide sheets here and then buy a slightly older tortoise.

You don't like Andrew from ATC? At TTPG last fall some of our leading Kinixys keeper folks went out to his place. As far as I know there's no ill will there or facility problems.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your baby Sucata, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that bought a tortoise from Tortoise Town 2 1/2 yrs. ago. He has been doing well from day one. If you get your new Tortoise from someone on this forum and follow the instructions thats given on this forum you should have many years watching it grow. Goodluck
