Just got this gorgeous buddy few days ago. My friend brought hers for a play date?. Surprised to find they are so different but according to the seller they are all Horsefieldi. Mine(the right one) is too green and flat while my friend’s is yellow and archy. According to the pics on the internet, herS is more ‘normal’ feature? Anyone can help? Thanks! Just don’t know if mine is a mix?

Greetings... all tortoises look a bit different depending on lots of things. So, urs looks fine. That said, you’re reallnot saying that your friend brought her tort over to your house & you guys put them together in tge same pen to play? Thats really a bad idea. Stressing both out, bullying, nipping & biting & possible introduction of parasites. Id recommend not doing that any more, it’s really a bad practise.

Good luck

Oh, thanks, we don’t know that was so serious. They seemed fine and getting along well. So you mean they can’t be put together? The seller said you could even buy a pair to raise. The first time to keep a Horsefield so not very experienced. Just thought they might be happy to see some same species friend if they are not both male?

Give the care sheet a good read. It will help you get your enclosure set up correctly(for example; you are using the wrong substrate)

Just FYI, tortoises are not humans and have virtually no human traits other than the desires to eat, procreate, and stay alive. They don't need or want friends, are not at all social, and don't get sad or lonely if by themselves. In fact, they like to be alone more than with other tortoises since then there is no competition for food.

The worse advice is from a pet store. Forget everything they said as it's already proven you been give horrible advice. Follow the care on this forum. We have all the right ways not the old outdated wrong ways.

My little guy looks like he has a suntan after the summer months outside.
