I think the difference is that here, if someone were to present @Tom with a "new, better" way of raising sulcata hatchlings, HE'D TEST IT. He's one of the few people equipped to run side by side experiments while controlling for all but the variable(s) being tested, and we would hear about it regardless of results.

If the "new, better" way was indeed BETTER (and could be replicated by people like @Tom and @Markw84, with "better" results), the guidance here would change. Or if the " new, better" way produced as good of results as the current best available guidance, TFO's guidance would likely expand to include the "new, other best" way of doing things.
This. Exactly.

I totally agree it must be sooo frustrating to dedicate years to learning and understanding the needs of tortoises to be able to provide better insights into caring for them correctly only to have people constantly quoting old outdated advice, I've found UK info so far behind the sound, proven advice on this forum

I feel bad for the tortoises. I don't care if people argue with me. I argue back and invite them to visit the TF for themselves. There are people that want to learn and I can't sit back and see them getting the wrong information without saying anything! lol

Lol I get where your coming from Facebook is a drama ground.
I came off it about 7 years ago I don’t want to see people putting a status up about what they did in the bathroom. Or what they having for dinner. Or an argument someone has had with there spouse.
facebook = war ground
Boy, you said it, Queen. Why in the world would anyone want to know what I had for dinner much less see a photo of it!!!

And even if the person arguing ignores everything you've said, there's a chance someone else may be reading the whole thing thinking "I dunno, this TFO place sounds like it's at least worth checking out..." And that's tortoise lives improved, thanks to you!

That’s honestly why I’m in those groups at all.

In all honesty I feel bad for @Tom hes been dealing with this forever. I was around 8-9 years ago and I believed him, in fact most of the forum did but if I even mentioned slightly that they need humidity I would get practically socially murdered back then. I have no idea how Tom has that kind of composure because I would lose my (ship <?) if I did years of research and everyone was like naw I think it’s protein- Diet-lighting-temperature blah blah... but at least at some point it got at least a little better, I definitely see a lot more people talking about humidity now. Honestly it came from here and that’s something this forum should be really proud of. Seriously I would have given up on tortoises if not for this forum and it’s wonderful members.

Agreed
I'm usually pretty calm.
But the content of the few FACEBOOK tortoise forums I've been on is just rediculous.
It seems that they are ruled by outcasts from helpful sites like this one.
I've found myself getting pretty pissed off pretty regularly on them.
So I no longer bother.

I will respectfully disagree

You are so right. I'm constantly looking for better ways to do any of this, and constantly incorporating new ideas learned from other people. Most of what I do and recommend was learned directly from other tortoises keepers, or in collaboration with them.
