I just got a 10 year old male brygooi. I really want to do conservation/preservation breeding with this species! Are there any adult female brygooi out there that I could purchase for this? If someone has only female(s) I would be willing to buy the animal(s) plus give you the first hatchling produced from that female(s). That way you will still have a Spider tortoise to enjoy without a mature female being kept out of the breeding pool!! I am very passionate about this species and would love to talk to other breeders and maybe one of you can point me in the right direction so I can start helping out with having more hatchlings being produced ASAP!! Thank you and ANY help would be appreciated!!

You may be lucky enough to find a female to buy or get on loan, but the chances are mighty slim IMHO. Spider Tortoises of all types are not very easy to pry away from their owners these days. You would probably be more successful if you bought several babies from a breeder and grew them up hoping to get a female or two.

There are several people in the Chicago area who breed Spider Tortoises and another one in Idaho. I would suggest putting a "WANTED" ad on both Kingsnake.com and Fauna Classifieds to see what you may scare up that way as well as posting this thread here.

Agree with Bill Z, young hatchlings would be your best bet. I have been buying up every one I can get my hands on for the past 10 years , adults are almost impossible to find.
