Hi there!
I’m new here and absolutely beginner redfoot tortoise owner ☺
We got our baby Redfoot, BeetleJuice, just yesterday from the reptile store. The store associate said he’s (not sure if he’s a he or she) about 2 months old. I’m not sure if this tiny white spot on top of his nose has been there since we got him, or it developed overnight. I didn’t notice due to it very tiny and a little above the nose.

We live in Florida and the weather has been great. It’s been raining too so the humidity is perfect. Today, I even had to turn of his basking light because it gotten a little too warm. We placed him right by the window. So a lot of natural light. My substrate is a combo of forest bed and cypress. He loves to roam around in the morning. Then goes to his dome and sleeps majority of the day after eating a lot. Boy he can eat! We’ve been feeding him lettuce. As you can see in the photo, there’s a tiny lettuce on his mouth. ?Where he was at, they fed him mixed greens.

Pls help me determine what this white spot is. Could be natural? If not, will it heal by itself? Do I need to go to the vet or wait for a few days?

I’m looking forward to replies. Thank you so much!

What your seeing is called an "Egg Tooth". All baby tortoises are born with it. It helps them break out of the egg. It will fall off eventually. Nothing to worry about, and welcome to the forum from a fellow Redfoot keeper.

Hi,

If you are talking about the pointed white area of the upper jaw just below his two nostrils, that is the egg tooth which is used when the baby hatches out of its egg. Eventually it will disappear.

You should look on this site for information on how to properly care for your new Redfoot Tortoise as feeding it just lettuce and/or greens is not the best diet for him and you may have been given bad care information at the store where you bought it.

Good luck with the tortoise. It looks great so far!

yep. I’ve been studying them a lot. Tomorrow we’re gonna try strawberries. Planning on giving him fruits once or twice a week, and protein once a week. I also ordered calcium supplement. I just realized lettuce ? has no nutritional value as much as other vegetables. We also have habiscus plant which we’re gonna try as well.
