Hey y'all! So as you might know, my tortoise, Aphrodite recently passed away, BUT my mom's retired friend offered me a hermann's tort from his tortoise farm, I obviously accepted and I have a question... I would like to keep him/her in my peach container, since it also has violets and spider plants, a substrate of almost clay soil, top soil and sand and a diameter of 70cm. Do you guys think it's ok for a hatchling hermann's tortoise? thanks!?

If I'm understanding correctly, you're planning on putting a tiny hatchling outside?

A hatchling needs for lights, temps, and humidity to be right on. They need to be housed indoors in a closed chamber.

It's going to be a hermann's tortoise, but I live in Bari and hermann's tortoises are native to italian coasts, so they are also found in the wild here, therefore, i don't think temperatures or humidity will be a problem, please correct me if I'm wrong

oh ok then! I'll keep it inside in a tortoise table then! thanks for the help
I wouldn’t do a tortoise table for a hatchling. They need relatively high humidity.

keep in mind that it is recommended that adults be kept in a minimum of 8x4 feet (2.44 x 1.22 m) or close to it, whether it be outside or inside. As an absolute bare minimum, I wouldn’t go below 6x4 feet (1.83 x 1.22 m).

be sure to give these a read. Hermann’s tortoises have bear identical care to Russians.

Unfortunately, you are wrong.

Adult Western Hermanns will do great in your area, as you said. They are native there.

But Mom tort knows the exact place to dig to lay her eggs. She knows just how deep to go so they get the perfect temp and humidity. When the babies hatch, they know where to go, too, so they have an environment that's good for them.

The only way for you to provide the best conditions for that tiny baby is to be able to control temp, lighting, and humidity. You cannot do that outside in a plant pot.
I'm linking 4 more threads you need to read. One is a Hermann's care sheet. Remember it is focused on an adult, not a hatchling.
The 2nd is about brooding babies and hatchling care. They will give you valuable background info. The 3rd is about closed chambers, and the 4th about heating.

Remember, if you don't want to take this on, it's OK. You could ask your mom's friend if he would give you an older tortoise. But still, no peach pot. He'd need a nice big outdoor enclosure.
