are they Rare or what? when i went but there was 2 of Tortoises They where “sulcatas” Hatchings for $140

I dont know to much about them.. but id say they are pretty hard to find and u got a deal.
So... for those who seem to have trouble believing this is not a sulcata, I went out and tried to get one of my 5 mo old sulcatas to pose as close to the picture posted. Didn't work for the exact pose, but it will work for what we need to see.
I placed the images together and scales about the same for comparison
Sulcatas are armored beasts. Note the scales on the front legs and even the scales above the eyes. Chacos also frequently have those lighter colored scales contrasting in the front legs. Sulcatas never do. There are much more differences, but these are the most obvious for the less experienced...

well i guess i have to toss out the care, i was caring for it like a Sulcata tortoise. i’m still not buying it 100% that’s a chaco. hard to believe they “These tortoises are from Africa.

Maybe because the Lack Of moisture on the Scales? i’ll tale more pictures. Thanks for pointing it out. does anyone have a thread to caring for “Chaco Tortoises”

They are quite rare to find available. The $140 was a bit high for a sulcata, but a bargain for a chaco. Someone totally did not know what they were offering. A chaco like this would normally be in the $600 - $800 range.
Their care is very similar to the desert tortoise.
Also-
You have a very beautiful and perfectly growing chaco there. No pyramiding. You are caring for it well. The new growth looks great.

also how could you not point this out? i had other account you responded i said it was a sulcata probably because it was younger. i’m gonna try to find it. thanks for the help mark.

Sulcata babies don't cost that much.
Yes, they are VERY rare in the pet trade.
Your little Chaco baby doesn't come from Africa, it comes from South America.

yes, but in the store they told me that’s my “sulcata” comes from africa. they also told me to feed lettuce and tomatoes and to keep it outside. but i didn’t i was thinking what a jerk, giving out this wrong info. now i wonder if the other tortoises in there are Chacos as well.
If so, I WANT ONE!!!
