Hi all my names. KC I bought my baby sulcata a week and a half ago we name him/her Bugsy wanted a universeal name since was told male. Then I was told could be a female sometimes the dots rub off during travel. The little thing been through alot second day went to the vet diagnosed with a upper resportory infection. However with that said his baytrail shots just finished on Tuesday and goes for a recheck this Friday. I contacted the breeder and they refunded what I paid for the tortise since my vet. Cost was more and I have to go back. With that said I don't mind swallowing the vet cost since it is my little sweet tortise and I'm already attached and would take it to the vet anyways to keep it in good health. I'm happy I found this site it said to introduce myself and share a little. Ok so on a. Different note I'm a mom of 2. I pretty much own a zoo or might as well own one. I have 1 super enchi banana spider bumblebee ball phytons, 1 vanilla cream super fire ball phytons, 1 sulcata, 1 English bulldog, 2 Guinea pigs, 1 sun conure 1 torquise Green cheek conure and that just what I have atm. Not my past animals which involve chinchilla, reg balls cat, beardie, bunny's etc. Obviously animal lover. Sorry so long.

Hi, and welcome to TFO!

If you haven't already, please read these posts that I have linked. If you have ANY questions about why we do things the way we do, please ask. This info is up to date, and represents many years of hands on experimenting, followed by thriving tortoises.

Welcome KC, I hope busy has a successful recovery.
Usually around 5 years old is when you can tell the gender.
In my case my sully (Opo) flashed me when he was about 2 1/2 years old.

Lol Bugsy is. Doing better but still going to the vet weekly. Let. Me tell you never been so happy to see a animals poop. With knowing that he/she not compacted after a couple different meds to help that out. I'm still waiting on another vit shot and another recheck. I still see a snot bubble here and there but overall he/she's getting better every day.. We built it a new box to explore and let it run the house/outside under supervision of course don't want to lose busgy. Does seem happier roaming outside instead of in the enclosure but I guess I would too. Thank you for caring?

Hello and welcome! If your bugsy is doing better, I would cancel the vet visits. He will get so much more out of warm temperatures and carrot soaks.. and way less traumatization... I also have many animals... one of them being an English bulldog... She is very spoiled and I’m ashamed to say that I show much favoritism. I have two senior Labradors that live outside and are pretty spoiled but nothing compared to the EB who lives, sleeps, and breaths right next to me;-).. I also have 3 Sullies! I could keep going but I’ll just say Good luck with your baby.. many are not started correctly from hatchlings and he new owner is faced with overcoming health issues from the start.. the vets (not all of course) are often more harmful than helpful with the exotics... this forum has been wonderful in helping me raise big beautiful Sullies..
