How long does a UVB light last?
ok, I heard every 3 months, I'll check the package again, maybe it's the brand that gives different lifeI always change mine out every 6 months. I think most of them say they are good for up to a year, but I don't take the chance.
What brand T5 are you using? Is Arcadia the brand? My t5 tube from Arcadia is still putting out the same amount of uvb after a little bit over a year use. I measure the output with a solarmeter.

Thanks!Yes arcadia is the brand I use the Arcadia T5 Tube 12%Desert for my sulcata
He probably knows now anyway hehehe...I just got a Solarmeter r5 (Don't tell tell Tom I listened to him) and measured my 1 1/2 year old arcadia and it is still putting out the right UVB! Yeah, sorry if you were closer I would loan it out!

This depends on the type you are using. There are many of them. Some last less than 3 months, and others last for 3 years or more. How long does a UVB light last?
Yes, but the Arcadia 12% HO tube is a little stronger and must be mounted a little farther away. You've got a good bulb. You just need a meter to set the correct height and tell you when to replace it. The meter will pay for itself, since you aren't buying a new bulb every six months, AND you'll know for sure how much UV your tortoise is getting at all times.does Arcadia have the same size lamp? would be a smart investment
ok, the way his enclosure is set up I have options to mount it a good distance if needed. what kind of meter, I've never heard of anything like that lol. I'm prepared to invest in a healthy tortoise as long as it's not a ridiculous number... then I can do with less expensive for now How much UVB is he supposed to be getting? just when I think ive learned all the major points, here comes another lolYes, but the Arcadia 12% HO tube is a little stronger and must be mounted a little farther away. How are you measuring that? I don't really touch my bulbs all too often ;-)Do you guys find that your bulb starts to run hot when it’s dying out?
