Bea, I ran across an old notebook with some measurements on your (Nelson's) Slate Rock Cave. Yes, I resorted to tracing it so the measurements would be right.((( SIGH ))) I haven't even had this little stinker 9 hours, and i'm already having to make adjustments to his tank because of that danged turtle STUBBORNNESS!!!!
His little faux-rock cave has a doorway in the front and back, and a smaller opening as a sort of window. He goes in and out the doors easily, which SHOULD be good enough, but apparently not: HE WANTS TO CRAWL THROUGH THE WINDOW, TOO!!!! He can NOT fit through the window,
So I've pulled out the cave, dried it off and will superglue a couple of large pebbles into that opening. After it sits all night, I'll put it back in the morning. (Maybe I should've named him Dennis the Menace!!!

I don't know how fast Nelson is growing (or outgrowing!), but I thought you might like the measurements to work with.

Nelson: "FINE! SIT AS LONG AS YOU WANT!!!! I'm NOT SMILING for the camera!!!! IMMA SIT WITH MY HEAD IN THE CORNER ALL DAY!!! You can take pictures of my shell ALL FRICKING DAY LONG but i"m NOT LOOKING AT THE CAMERA!!!"

Nelson is such a handsome turtle!
Did he fuss about getting weighed and measured? My turtles don't usually mind being set in a container on the scale... but they REALLY don't like getting their carapaces measured. They don't want to tuck their heads in so I can get the calipers positioned at the front.
Sometimes Bold will stretch her neck downward, so her head and neck are far enough out of the way for me to position the calipers at the front of her carapace... but she still doesn't like it.

When I weigh Nelson, he initially scrambles into the corner of the dish I weigh him in, and then sits quietly.
My measuring methods are more primitive: I just use hubby’s aluminum tape measure because it has a lock mechanism on it. I pull out the tape to about 6 inches, lock it there, and hold Nelson over the tape to get his length. He just keeps everything tucked in as far as he can until I’m done. [emoji2] He’s very tolerant about it all.[emoji173]️

He seems to be a bit on the shy side, which I understand is not unusual for the razor back musks.
But he is incredibly healthy and totally adorable!!!
